shameless self-promotion

hey, what's livejournal for if not shameless boasting? here it is: i was in the batavia daily news twice this week, for one event: the wyoming county chamber of commerce's annual meeting/dinner and awards ceremony. four awards were given: manufacturer of the year (american classic outfitters, who rose from the flames of champion products to produce a line of custom, top-of-the-line sportswear), agribusiness of the year (the butlers, can't recall what their farm is called), retail business of the year (creekside fabric, a quilting-and-more shop in arcade, headed by a smart busy dynamic woman), and most promising new business. the last of which would be burlingham books.

yes, contemplate a county in which a *bookstore* deserves such a designation. and i don't know if we deserve it, but my, it really felt good. it's a lovely way for the chamber of commerce to encourage and promote my business, as well as the downtown revitalization we're trying to achieve in all of the county's villages. well, hell, it's just great publicity and a huge energy boost, no two ways around it.

the only question is, how many years can the award hang on the wall without looking sad and tacky? even if it's dusted, at some point, "2007 Most Promising New Business" is just going to look pathetic, right? unless it's surrounded by other awards... do i need to sponsor a softball team now?

it's a small pond, but it's my small pond - and i can see the ripples. yahoo! oh, and my speech wasn't longest, by far! (which means i probably omitted way too much, but i was nervous and winging it. maybe i'll write the chamber a letter.)
