yesterday was a good day, and henry was a sweetie pretty much from hugging me at daycare when i fetched him, through the library and a walk downtown, home, dinner, and bathtime; i should have written then. today just felt *bleah*. a late morning with henry resisting getting ready, then a trip downtown, where, yes, over the weekend the electrician installed outside lights (my name, in lights), but hasn't gotten to the bits i really want and need: connect the phone, give me outlets for the computers (though i'll run an extension cord if i have to), and one for the coffee cart. he did, at some point, cut a hole in the floor for that last. well, good. but now he won't be able to get in with the key he has - the locksmith was to meet me there tonight, to change the front door locks. well, he was, but we had a lot of snow and wind today, so we rescheduled for tomorrow. a helpful thing: the guys who moved the coffee cart and dismantled it came over and re-mantled it. i am coming around to the idea, floated by the plumbers, that i not plumb the thing, but use it as it is, toting water to it daily and dumping the waste each night. it might not be that bad. if it is, i can have them plumb it later. save me time and a few dollars now, this way, though. then i called the comupter guy to come out - tomorrow, or thursday, we'll see - and took that vacuum cleaner to batavia. the snow stopped, as usual, about the edge of the county. i did check out the old (1918) toy & bike store there, and got a cup of coffee on main street (where the worst singer was playing guitar and singing), then did some personal business at the social security office. i spotted a doll shop, and stopped and found an anatomically correct boy baby doll, so, to answer those who've asked (there've been a few), that's what henry is getting for christmas (okay, and a child's broom set from the toy store), possibly from his grandma. the woman at teh doll shop told me about a bookstore - i was under the impression that batavia, despite its size, had none, save a tiny corner of the coffee shop - so i went and, with some effort, found it: present tense, books & gifts, open since late august. i had a nice chat with the owner. fetched henry, came home, and stayed.
i am still depressed about/furious with the fixtures company, who basically aren't getting me my bookcases any earlier than *maybe* the saturday before christmas. a day to install them, a day to have the books arrive, a day (at best) to get them on the shelves, and, yes, there goes christmas, pretty much.
i hope and trust that i'll get more done tomorrow, and feel better about it. a phone and a computer system would be nice.
