Checking in

This morning's laugh: While examining the (still clean! bright! shiny!) freezer for food to thaw for dinner, I looked once more at something my mother froze. The label still puzzled me: "soup stock aug 16 '02 Elvis Presley" - was it an Elvis recipe? why was she making notes about Elvis on her scrap-paper freezer label? (my mother routinely saves the edges of postage stamps sheets and the ends of printed address labels for use as sticky labels), until I finally noted the addendum, on a second scrap of label: "dead 25 yrs." Time capsule, Gilly style.

We have snow cover again, starting yesterday. Jason took the car to work, while I'm staying home, hoping to quickly write a book review of the upcoming Tale for Three Counties [ http://tale3counties.nioga.org/ ] book, _In the bleak midwinter_, for a newspaper contest. (Last year I had lunch with Howard Frank Mosher, author of _Northern borders_.)

Last week's accomplishment: Friday I filed my DBA - Doing Business As - for Burlingham Books. Step One.

I'm pleased to see that _Because of Winn-Dixie_, which I finally got around to reading, is now a movie. If the movie is as good as the book, it should be quite enjoyable. And for once, a *girl's* story. I am pretty sick of boys' coming-of-age stories.
