I'm so scared...

Apr 03, 2006 13:22

Basic gist... I finished high school at Dyer County High... I lived in Newbern, TN for a few years, and that's where my mom and my sister live... I woke-up from a night of nightmares... Weird enough, about tornadoes... And my phone ringing... I didn't recognize the number, so I let whomever it was leave a voice mail... I go through my morning routine, then check my voice mail... It's my sister... Telling me that mom and her family are alive and well... No one is hurt and that she'll get on-line later to tell me all the details... I have no clue what the fuck it was about... I open up My Yahoo... and I start reading the reports... I'm horrified...

I have friends who work in the factory that was hit... I have family friends that live behind that factory... People I went to school with... Families of loved ones... There are so many people that are right now, unaccounted for... I already have read on Yahoo News, about the family of one of my sister's close friends is dead... He was at work, left his child with his mother and father... All three are dead... My sister is devestated and a mess... My "Aunt" Lynnice, who is as close to me as my mother, her and her family, who are like my family who lived right north of the Jimmy Dean factory are as of right now, unaccounted for and there is no access to their homes... The devestation through there is some of the worst hit by the tornado... My mother lived a mile down the road in the opposite direction... My sister who saw the tornado told me that she heard it way before the siren's went off... My mom, who luckily was in Fowlkes/Four Points, south of Dyersburg, had my sister's children with her when it all happened... My sister and her husband ran to a neighbor's house and the neighbor with her family all hid in the bathroom, the safest room in the house to hole up for the duration... My sister said softball size pieces of hail were falling and got hit with a few pieces... Though my sister's street was okay, other neighboring streets were destroyed... The old high school which was two miles away, had pieces of debris fly as far as my sister's house, where they settled in her front lawn... In fact, my sister said her front lawn is full of items from up to 2-3 miles away from her house... My sister after the initial storm had passed and it was okay to travel, jumped in her car and proceeded to drive to my mom's place to see if it was still standing... She said power lines were down... And she saw two bodies in a ditch... One of which appeared to be a decapitated child... She said he couldn't have been more than five... And what she hoped to have been the father... Both bodies were broken and mangled... She also said the tornado sounded the worst out of any other storm she had experienced and between that sound and the later sights, she swore if she ever heard that sound again, not to blame her if she had to be sent away for losing her mind...

Please send these people good thoughts, vibes, prayers, etc. These are not faceless people... These are not dumb hicks that don't know any better... These people are my family and my friends... I write all of this because sometimes, you read about such things and you totally desensitize yourself from it, because with most horrors, if you don't have a name or a face, you dismiss the thoughts... These are caring individuals, that if you got lost, would get in their cars and let you follow them to the right area... When you move into their area, they show up with a pecan pie and a pitcher of iced tea to drink... Will have a BBQ and invite you over, without blinking an eye... These are people who you could literally go over and borrow an egg or a cup of sugar, and they'd give you a dozen and a bag... These are hard working people who work in the factories that produce the cotton materials for your panties and shirts... (ie, Dyersburg Cotton Mill)... These are the people that put together your books (Penguin)... That make the deserts you eat (Sara Lee)... And for those of you that like to eat meat and have yourself a nice southern breakfast (Jimmy Dean Sausage)... And I'm not even getting into the other 8 neighboring factories that these people of these communities work 24/7 around the clock to met your demands as the normal every day consumer... These are thankless people, that you don't think of when you "buy American" down at the local store when you purchase your favorite band's t-shirt, or that designer skirt, that you must have... You see the name tag of the band that shaped it... The model that wore it... But NEVER the person that PUT that material together...

These are hard working people with families... They are still waiting to discover more bodies... To calculate more damage... I'm wondering who all I know and love are dead...

Please forgive me if I'm unavailable today.

P.S. And for any insensitive dumb ass on here, that wants to post another "dumb redneck/hick" bullshit comment on here... I want to see how "disaster free" your area is from, ice storms, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. So SHUT THE FUCK UP... Because I'm sure I can think of plenty of insults on you, as a person/INDIVIDUAL, that I could just begin to slam on... Remove yourself... And fuck you, very much...
