So I'm back from Boston/Providence/New Bedford, aka my annual trip to see my bestest friends who live way too far away. The trip was great (with the exception of the trip back - more on that later). Spent quality time with friends, quality time drinking, and even some quality time being cultured. The long and short of it: got in a little later than I'd hoped Friday night, but was greeted by not one, but two, of my friends (Dan and Jeffrey), yay! Dropped off my stuff at Jeffrey and Ben's place and headed to their work (McFadden's) for some drinkin' and hangin' out. Within an hour, we'd all had between 5 and 8 shots a piece, plus a few drinks on top of that, and were feeling pretty good. Came back to the apartment and crashed.
Saturday, Dan, Ben, and I went to the Harvard Natural History Museum, which we visited last year but didn't have enough time to see everything. Then, it was off to Dan's new apartment to meet the roommates (PR Dan and Maura) and head to a yummy hibachi dinner. Sunday was brunch in Boston with Dan, Jeffrey, and Ben, then sweating it out in the apartment before heading to the mall for shelter. Sunday night was movie night. We watched National Treasure (very good), Equilibrium (better than The Matrix), and Reality Bites and finally crashed around the 3 a.m. hour. Monday, Jeffrey and I walked the Freedom Trail and saw the graves of Ben Franklin's parents, Paul Revere, and Samuel Adams. Then it was off to Dan's for dinner with the Dans and chilling at the apartment for the night. Tuesday was leaving day :( Unfortunately, my flight was repeatedly delayed due to Philly airport's closure from weather. After hours and hours at the airport, I finally made it home sometime after midnight (about 6 hours late). Now, I'm home unpacking and recovering from a few days of too much fun and too little sleep. Amazingly, while there, we did not eat our way through the whole city ;-) Dan will be the only one to get that reference, hehe.
It was great to see everybody, and the trip was definitely not long enough. I love everyone's new apartments and new roommates. Hopefully it won't be a whole year until I can visit again. And now, I leave you with some poetry I wrote at the airport. I've been lacking inspiration for probably well over a year now, but there is nothing that brings out my creativity like a trip to RI/MA.
"Another Home"
Foreign soil never felt so familiar
Homesick for a place not home
Still claiming unstrange surroundings
As my best-kept therapy
Guarding closely minutes slipping by
Preciously guarded memories
Scattered to sprinkle
Intangible permanence
In a tangible place
"No Fault"
Times New Roman
Elements unfettered
In my annoyance
Undaunted by black-and-white rationale
Simply Standing
In opposition
To all passengers' desires
Only travelers controlling their destinations
Second hands controlled by no one
Poised alone, ready for the storm
