Poem of our life

Remember when we were five?
You came to Allison for the first time.
Then you disappeared one day
and I tucked your memory safely away.

Remember when we were ten?
First day of fifth grade, you were there again.
I invited you over. I remembered your face.
Something that beautiful cannot be erased.

Remember when we were eleven?
Hanging out with Chris in our own seventh heaven.
We’d set up the tent in your front yard
And plan to stay up, but that was so hard.

Remember when we were twelve?
We were in Junior High and thought so much of ourselves.
We took the smart classes. Back then they were fun
And our volleyball days had just begun.

Remember when we were thirteen?
The top of the chain, we were the stars of the team.
We stood by each other. We were both number one.
Even that time Coach D made me run.

Remember when we were fourteen?
Our freshman year we wondered unseen.
Then towards the end we drifted away
And my life sunk into a world of grey.

Remember when we were fifteen?
I was jealous and never meant to be that mean.
You didn’t deserve all those things that I said.
If I could, I’d go back and unravel that thread.

Remember when we were sixteen?
We hadn’t spoken for years it seemed.
June 8th you handed me something so small
“You remembered”, I said trying not to bawl.

Remember all those years gone by
And think of all stars in the sky.
For each one that’s in Heaven’s sea
There’s a treasured memory of you and me.
