I'm doing largely okay! Still that tightness of impending dread that feels like it's constantly on the horizon, but not here yet. Our government yesterday announced a 'jobkeeper' package which basically equates to $1500 per fortnight per employee to businesses affected by closures, of which we're definitely one, so the aim of that is to obviously keep people in jobs even if they're not really doing anything. So instead of everyone going to Centrelink because they've lost their jobs and need to get on welfare, it's spreading it across to the Aus Tax Office and making it easier to bounce back on the fabled 'other side'. It's been a huge load off for me, at least. I mean it doesn't cover my entire salary, but enough of it that I reckon we can make it through now. Still nervy, but we're more of an 'if' case now rather than 'when' regarding closure.
Australia itself, we've had about 3500 cases so far and 18 deaths, of which about two thirds are from Australians returning home. Of the deaths, two thirds came from bloody cruise ships. Cruise ships have been our worst problem. SA's had about 300 cases, but we only reported 6 new ones yesterday! So we're doing all right. We keep getting told we're bout two weeks behind the curve, but we've started flattening it in the past coupla days so I'm feeling positive. LITTLE WINS.
Honestly? We look at the US and are horrified. 'America sneezes and the world catches a cold' has never been more true. Idk what your media's been telling you, but we look at the US and Italy as examples of what not to do. LOOK AT THIS SHIT. China was scary, Italy remains terrifying, but the US is just... it makes you speechless. I feel for you and your family most of all in all this. Stay safe, girl. I've made a point of Skyping or phoning someone every night just for mental health--mine and theirs.
