Taking a momentary break from work I brought home that will keep me busy all weekend. A few weeks ago, I was told I'd been chosen for a special team to handle a special project over the course of two months. All very flattering, of course, except it's pretty much 24/7 and there have been a few nights when I haven't gone to bed at all. Not that it

My sincere thanks for your advice. I plan to have a talk with my supervisor once this is done. I keep getting all the big assignments and "prestigious projects" and none of the rewards. What few promotions we've had are all going to younger people who are relatively new to the company. That seems to be the directive of the new leadership--young, fresh and talented over older, experienced and talented.
Honestly, though, I don't think it will do much good. If it were up to my immediate leadership, I would have been promoted a long time ago. But the higher-ups have already identified certain people as the chosen ones and I've come to realize I'm apparently not among them. In fact, in light of recent layoffs and all of the good, talented people who've been let go, I'm amazed I'm still there. The older I get, the more likely I am to wind up on HR's hit list. ::sigh::
I keep telling myself to be grateful I'm still employed and that there's a good reason for things working out the way they have. I've found, looking back, that even if it didn't seem like it at the time, things generally had a way of working out for the best in the end.
Or, you could just ignore me, as I am angry and bitter and my salary continuance runs out this week. grrrrrr
I don't want to ignore you at all! (Didn't mean to, anyway. Bad, anna!) Don't blame you a bit for being angry and bitter and worried. I've been there myself, and it's very stressful when the money is running out and you haven't been able to find another job. I'm so sorry you find yourself in that position.
And you know, it never occurred to me that the special projects could go on my resume. Duh. I will definitely document those with that in mind. Thanks!
And I don't know if this would help or not in your case, but a friend of mine who got laid off last year was hired almost immediately by another company. What made it surprising was that she was over 55. They told her it was because they read the blog she kept on Linkedin and it made her more of a person to them, not just a job applicant. I figure if it helped her, it could help others. It's something I plan to try if I get laid off.
In the meantime, sending prayers and lots of good vibes your way. Hang in there! ::HUGS::
