The Doctor and Sarah Jane

I should be looking for Medical receipts -- they're trying to force me onto a new plan in which I pay a lot more out of pocket!

I found a snippet of an interview with Elisabeth Sladen, aka Sarah Jane Smith to "Who" fans. She is frequently asked why she and Tom "Fourth Doctor" Baker hit it off so well. (He has a reputation for being difficult to work with, more on that later.) She believes its because they're both from Liverpool -- it was like finding a long-lost brother. :-)

I suspect the clincher's something which sounds very silly, but here goes. Tom, the middle child of a poor family, left school after the fourth grade until he was old enough for middle school. Curious, creative Tom therefore never had a chance at college: he had to learn a trade. Louise "Leela" Jameson said he seemed to be very insecure about his abilities. This is why. Lis, however, had a magic touch -- it's as if she saw the little boy inside and behaved in a manner which encouraged him to trust her. She'd frequently play along with his "tweaked" screenplay. The Director was pulling hair out, the Producer had nervous stomach, Tom and Lis were adding comedy or adapting lines to make it more of a dramedy, i.e., a "Doctor and Martha" duo for the 'Seventies, and the audience loved it.

Then, because "I never wanted to be asked to leave," she resigns. As if . . .. She assumed that Tom would leave after three years, not stay for seven! They're still friends, today.
