The cat is gone! It took a visit to an "Ear, Nose & Throat" doctor, who is a no-nonsense Midwesterner (with a German last name -- I speak as one also blessed) to convince Mom that if she wants me to feel well enough to go on dates, the cat goes. It's amazing how quickly it finally happened.
