Day Fourteen - The Tragedy Brought By the Rain

Jan 16, 2011 23:07

In some states of Brazil, it is raining so much that some places are suffering from floods. Here where I live there hasn't even been raining, but we all see on the news what's happening in states like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

There are over 600 people dead already, and it still hasn't stopped raining. A lot of people have lost their houses and everything that they own because of the rain. There are streets that have become little rivers, and the strength of the water is impressive. A lot of pets have died as well, and the dirty water can make people sick.

It's a tragedy, but it's one that happens almost every year. Why hasn't the government tried to find a solution for it yet? There must be some precautions to be taken so that when it comes this time of the year when we all know it rains a lot, it doesn't became a tragedy of such big proportions.

And of course, unfortunately, we must say that the people itself is also to blame: first, for electing even clowns to be in our congress, therefore making our elections such a huge joke; second, because they build their houses where they shouldn't and refuse to leave those dangerous places when they are told to; and, finally, because it's the people that keep littering on the streets and other public places, and that blocks the sewers, so when it rains the water doesn't have anywhere to go. There are even some people who throw away big furniture like sofas, or even cars who aren't worth anything anymore, in places where they shouldn't. When it rains and there's a big flood, it all comes up and end up destroying everything there is on the way.

Six hundred people have lost their lives because of the floods, and something tells me this number will be higher by the end of the week. Is it fair?

I'd like to ask you all to pray for those people and their families, for them to have the strength to go through this sad time of their lives; also, to pray that the rain stops and that there aren't new victims. Thank you!

sadness, brazil, life
