It hit my fancy today while having breakfast and watching The Good Cook on TLC that even though I don't have access to the type of cheeses you need to make a quiche lorraine, namely cheddar or gruyere, I can always follow the recipe that Simon Hopkinson follows and make the quiche. I don't have access to lard either. Am gonna have to go all butter then. 120gms of butter and I am supposed to be working on dropping 20kgs. *gulps*
He really has an amazing recipe. He's blind baking the pastry as is usual and for the filling using bacon(which I will be substituting with boneless chicken -- getting anything other than chicken here is a long haul) at the bottom and then adding a mix of cream and eggs with seasoning whisked together. This is good, really good.
My exams end on 15th and I am going to attempt this on 16th night. Quiche Lorraine and chicken soup for dinner. Am salivating already.
My first pie, first time gonna do pastry. Tips for the chefling, my darlings?
And since we are talking about calories, I am going to add that I sacrificed sleep and went on a 5km walk this morning as well, and returned in 40 minutes. I am hoping, by the end of next year, I will have lost the pounds and would be in a good state, physically and mentally.
AND I am so goddamn not prepared for tomorrow's exam. Shit.
Shit.
Shit.
