How about Germany? They've never been the bad guys.

I've been having a weird impromptu X-Files marathon lately -- I haven't watched that show in FOREVER but for some reason out of the blue I got the urge to watch the first season episode "Eve", and it held up SHOCKINGLY WELL. I tend to the think of the first season as being kind of terrible, but man, I can see why my 14 year old self got really into ( Read more... )

We have been having a great X-Files renaissance at my house -- my husband and I are just about to watch "Bad Blood"* and my housemate and I are hitting "Colony/Endgame" in our separate rewatch. I am having the same feelings as you re: self-important voiceovers and all the crazy shit that happens to Scully, but I am also being validated as to just how awesome Scully was. I fell for the show at the beginning of season five when I was 16, and man, Scully is just so smart and pretty and tough and great. It really set the tone for every other show or character I have loved, and explains why I can't get into a lot of mainstream television. It also makes me realize that one of the things I like about P&R is that Leslie is considered super-competent by everyone, which is just so refreshing. Usually there's a huge "but" to a character like that (Meredith Grey is a great surgeon but she's also a weeping troubled-men magnet so no one takes her seriously!), so I like that Leslie's flaw is that she is TOO competent and everyone's scared of how ( ... )

Oh man, how funny! I seriously haven't watched XF in so long and then suddenly I just wanted to. Scully really really REALLY is so awesome, it completely is validating -- there is nothing about her that is awful, she is just so kickass. Haha, though there are some times in the first season where she gets some mansplaining about, like, medical things, which seems inappropriate. But for the most part she is SO GOOD. (Though it is also funny to me HOW FAST she is psychotically loyal to Mulder. Any normal person would save their career and run away from this lunatic, Scully!)

Omg VINCE GILLIGAN WROTE YOU BACK?????????? I-I have possibly never been this jealous of anyone in my life.

I HAD COFFEE WITH CHRIS CARTER'S SISTER LAST MONTH.

(She doesn't know that I know who her brother is, though.)

That is awesome about Vince Gilligan. I finally had the opportunity to meet him last year (relating to Breaking Bad, but that show is absolute excellence, so whatever), and little me was having a complete fit of joy, basically.
