Dr. Cox leaned over the counter of the nurse's station, watching Carla make notes on a file. He stood there for a good sixty seconds, just staring, before she rolled her eyes.

"What?" she said, without looking up.

"Oh, nothing," he said. "I'm just contemplating the face of a woman who would actually kiss Janice. Tell me, what are the inner forces, the maelstrom of emotion, that would drive anyone to such a new and terrifying…."

As soon as he had said the word "kiss", Carla's eyes had widened, she had jumped up, grabbed him by the arm, and shoved him into the nearest supply closet before Laverne's ears could so much as perk up.

The closet was already occupied by two sniffling interns, hiding from their patients. Carla's hand tightened on his arm. "Excuse us," she said, and hustled him back out, across the hall, and into the other supply closet, the small one. So small, in fact, that when Carla slammed the door shut she was practically standing on his feet.

"Is there a problem?" he asked mildly.

"What is wrong with you?!" she snapped, glaring. Even standing this close, with her so much shorter, she was managing to pull off intimidating. "How did you even find out about that?"

"I have my sources," he said. "But honestly, Carla, if you're going to cheat on that overgrown six-year-old you like to call your husband, you can't find anyone better than Harriet?"

"I didn't cheat on Turk!" she said. "It was just a drunken kiss! A friend kiss!"

"I mean, I suppose Tanya does have his finer qualities, somewhere buried deep down - deep, deep, deep down - but I always figured that between you and Gandhi, the one who would end up running away with Tanya would be Gandhi. Though I suppose if your husband gets upset, you can always point out that you're probably not the only one in the marriage who's drunkenly tongue-wrestled with Alice, so that would be a plus."

"There were no tongues!"

"But please, Carla, you're about twenty times too good for either of them. Besides which, now I'm curious - is Georgina's hair crunchy when you touch it? Because with the amount of product he uses, I've always imagined that it would be, but lacking personal experience in the area, maybe you could enlighten me."

Carla raised an eyebrow. "You imagine what J.D.'s hair feels like?"

Dr. Cox's mouth opened and shut. "No." She looked at him. "I mean, only for ridiculing purposes. Obviously."

"Uh huh." Carla tried to step back to get room to cross her arms across her chest, but she knocked into the door and had to settle for putting her hands on her hips instead. "Look, Perry, I'm not sure why you think this is any of your business, or who exactly it is that you're jealous of in this situation, but if I catch you spreading this around to anyone, I will personally punch you in the neck, cut you up into little pieces, and then set you on fire, do you hear me?"

"Fair enough," Dr. Cox said.

"Good," Carla said. "Now if that's everything, I need to get back to work."

She started to turn around to open the door.

"Uh, just one more thing," Dr. Cox said, and when she turned back towards him, he leaned down and kissed her. She didn't kiss him back, but she didn't pull away either, and when he finished she looked on the verge of tears. The skin around her eyes seemed bruised and tight.

"Okay," she said, and licked her lips. "Don't do that again."

She turned left going out of the supply closet, and he turned right, and that was the end of that.
