Boring round-up of last week

I had my lymph node biopsy on Tuesday. It was a strange experience. The lymph node in my groin that they are concerned about is 1.1cm and the cut-off point for raising concerns is 1cm, so it's only just worrying. It's borderline. It's so small and tucked away that they couldn't feel it through my skin and had to biopsy it under ultrasound. It was so small and healthy looking (nice shape and fatty centre apparently) that the doctor in charge actually rang my consultant to check that he definitely wanted them to go ahead. It then took two doctors three attempts to locate it and manage to clip off a big enough sample. One said it was one of the most difficult biopsies he'd done.

All of which *could* be good news because if they were right and it's not significant and not involved at all, it's a very different picture for me. I dare not bank on anything anymore, though.

On Friday, I had to go for 'nuclear medicine'. They injected me with a radioactive substance and then tested my blood after three hours, then four hours, then five. I'm not 100% sure what this was about but I guess it's to do with seeing how things behave in my bloodstream. After the radioactive injection (bright purple, like being injected with Vimto), I started spinning out. I went completely light-headed and saw peripheral flashing lights, then all my dreams from the last week or two started coming back to me vividly and I wasn't sure what was real. They told me to sit and wait until it passed then left me to it, so I left the hospital (even though I wasn't ready) and walked back to the main road. My plan had been to go into town and kill some time in a cafe until the first test but I couldn't pull myself together enough. My friend picked me up instead and took me back for toast at his house, then looked after me for the rest of the day.

My mum and dad had Paddy for the weekend and I pretty much went on a bender. On the Friday night, my first boyfriend came to see me and we got really drunk together. We watched home movies from when we were 15/16 and listened to all our old music, including 'our song' (This Love by Pantera, if you must know!)

Saturday, a friend from Manc came down and a few of us went out around some pubs and to two different punk gigs. It was fun, I think. I drank too much again. Everyone wants to kiss me at the moment, which is pretty cool. Apart from the hangover, I had a good weekend. Who knows when I'll be able to do it again so I'm glad I did.

My appointent with the oncologist is Wed at 3pm, I think to set the chemo schedule. I just want to get started with it now, however vile it turns out to be.

Here is my World's Best Mum certificate from my loving son, Pabby.
