You're not expecting them to make sense, are you? So far they've Godwinned themselves, blamed the whole thing on a vast Jewish conspiracy and more or less called all gay people paedophiles while the Pope floats around like Norma Desmond dismissing it all as 'petty gossip' he's too good to listen to. It's a public relations carcrash. I mean, how hard is it to say "Sorry - yes. Priests have fucked kids and that's bad. We'll get right on bringing them to justice."?

I know, I wish they'd just own up to the fact that they've been screwing up big time for a while now, and deal with it so it will stop. But that would require that sense thing.

You missed the bit that they publicly explained the problem was homosexuality not celibacy in a diocese where the most notorious case involved fucking little girls (well, there's Genesis 10:12 I suppose for precedent).
