Rec! Incursion by scrtkpr

OK, so, I do have other Avengers fics to rec, and also a couple of chapters of my own wipfic to post here in addition to AO3, but here's a rec I've been meaning to put up for a while, written for this year's cap_ironman Reverse Big Bang:

Incursion by scrtkpr
Universe: Marvel (Comics), Marvel 616, New Avengers (Comics), Avengers (Comics)
Rating: Teen And Up
Pairing: Steve/Tony
Warning(s): None
Summary: When Steve and Tony are taken down in the heart of Avengers Tower by alternate versions of themselves, their counterparts reveal a threat to both the foundations of the multiverse and to the foundations of Steve and Tony's friendship.
Excerpt: “So,” said Tony, drawing everyone’s attention. He made eye contact with the other two, but not with Steve. “Always a little awkward, trying to shift gears from nonconsensual bondage to science-themed playdate. But you do this all the time, is that right? Any suggestions for smoothing the transition?”

Squeee Rec: Yes, scrtkpr wrote again!!! And it's lovely! And, take it from a comics newbie, you don't have to know anything about what's going on in comicworld to adore the story. Though I'm told if you do, it's even more awesome :D :D

You have no idea how much this fic took over my thinking. See, scrtkpr was going to write this fic for the Reverse Big Bang and I really really wanted to beta it. However, she warned me that it was going to be very comics-heavy but I'm pretty much a strictly MCU girl, and it was gonna be from the New Avengers stuff currently coming out which I (a) had heard was hellishly confusing and (b) had no plans to read until it came out in TPB, if ever.

I begged politely requested to beta anyway, as the Voice of the Ignorant. Because the fic was supposed to be aimed at hardcore 616 fans, but hey, if it could be accessible to us Clueless without sacrificing the complexity desired by those in the know, that could only be a good thing, right? Besides it had been forever since I'd read anything of scrtkpr's so, you know, insert fangirl squeeing.

Conclusion: it's accessible. Very much so. Yes, there's a lot of stuff that, if you're In the Know, is probably even more fun, but if you're wholly Clueless like I was it's still a hell of a story, because the focus isn't the fact-specific Crisis so much as it is the relationship between Steve and Tony. And... um... Steve and Tony.
