From the Girl About to be Fired

So, I'm not allowed to do classroom training right now; but they let me do two one-on-one gas remedial trainings today.

One was easy - she was clever and fun. We breezed through the material without much issue.

The other was more of a challenge. He was so overwhelmed. No amount of reassurance seemed to comfort him, despite his success with the review ( Read more... )

I honestly have no idea how you're dealing with this situation. There's really nothing worse than going to work with the fear that you're going to be fired. I was in the situation at the animal shelter I worked at when I was younger -- I had a supervisor who was actively campaigning to have me fired because she had some personal issues with me. And it was torture, having to go to work every day and do my job when I felt like everything I did was being closely scrutinized. You seem to be handling it with a lot of grace.

I am hoping that they're not going to do it at all. I don't know how your company works, but it just seems bizarre to me that they'd be stringing you along like this if their mind was already made up. It's a pretty cruel thing to do.

And, honestly, if they do decide to give you the heave-ho... maybe you're better off? I have never regretted losing a job, personally. You'll get through it and bounce back and hopefully find something even more awesome. It's hard not to feel like it's the end of the world when it happens (believe me, I'm there right now) but sometimes it's a blessing in disguise and leads to much better things. Seeing how the company has been treating you after so many years, I'm sure there's a company out there that would be happy to have you and not treat you so horribly.

I've been really hoping they're just lining up their info for a report, so they can reprimand you strongly and then write in the report that they did indeed reprimand you strongly, and then everyone goes on from there. They can assure the complainers that their issues were fully investigated and responded to, and they can keep their excellent trainer.

That your boss is unsupportive seems very problematic.

I agree. It's my hope that he's just mad - which I would understand.

I've been in that situation, too, and it went on for months. It was horrible. I finally got so upset that I just resigned, which if course was precisely what she wanted because then there were zero avenues open to me going forward; no unemployment, no grievances, nothing.

Being younger and very unhappy, and knowing that Belinda was trying to get rid of me, I wasn't admittedly thinking about things like that at the time. Looking back, I should have stuck it out and found something else, or made her fire me, or at the very least, tried harder to get HR to intervene on my behalf. My one experience with trying to talk to HR about it - confidentially, I thought - was that by the time I got back to my desk, the HR lady had already called my boss and repeated everything I had said about her. Thanks!!
