Do I attract weird old men?

So, I’ve had a weird weekend. Saturday was pretty normal, and I had volleyball again (I’m so sportive these days xD). Other than that, the old man from the neighbourhood who occasionally gives me food came by again. That’s where the weirdness comes in.

He’s been rather insistent on going shopping for trousers with me. Still not sure why, and I personally think that is really strange, but since I had to buy extra sports clothing, with how often I play sports in a week these days, so I agreed on going with him on Sunday.

I ended up getting the things I needed, so that was good, but this man insisted on paying for me. Which I refused. And refused, and refused. And then loudly refused and he finally let me pay for myself. Then I thought that was it, but even on the way back he kept insisting on at least paying me partly and when I kept refusing, he tried to guilt me into letting him pay. I was so uncomfortable, but thankfully I was strong enough to keep refusing. It’s so weird though? I don’t trust people who want to pay a lot of money for me, especially when I don’t really know them, since they probably want something in return anyway… And he’s only being nice to me, so if I am rude, I’m in the wrong and the whole situation is just making me super uncomfortable. I’m just going to try my hardest and avoid this man as much as I can.

In the evening I went to table tennis, so at least that was fun. Since somehow these things always happen around the same time, the old man from volley who often makes me uncomfortable as well came that night too, but this time it wasn’t uncomfortable so that was good.

Today I went to an elementary school I hadn’t been since before the summer vacation, so that was a lot of fun. I handed the teachers my candy from the Netherlands, and one of them said he didn’t know what cinnamon tastes like… I was already surprised when some elementary school students said they didn’t know what cinnamon was, but to think that even adults don’t know it was very surprising.

The fifth year students had to decide which countries they wanted to go to, and of course several students told me that “they didn’t want to go anywhere because Japan was best.” How do you know if you’ve never been anywhere else? It also took them about ten minutes to realise that going from the Netherlands to Italy meant I went to another country, and that that would be similar to them going to Korea or China, and not just to another prefecture. Sometimes it surprises me how little they know about the world.
