Self-portrait

Mar 24, 2011 12:30

 A finger painted copy
Of a copy of a reproduction
Of an original imitation
In a gilded dignified frame

Reaching from the gutter
Of her own mediocrity
For the stars of a Hollywood
Ending kind of life

She diets on the sly
To fit into the off-the-rack
Costume of the long-suffering
And anguished protagonist

Rolling her eyes dramatically
At the embellishments
That she herself endows her
Uneventful life with

Bedazzling with cheap sparkle
The unique soporific pages
Of her diary that could
Easily be anyone else’s

Her arm college-ruled
By self-infliction and foresight
For all the future poetry
Her phantom wounds would spawn

girl in the mirror, scribbles, me
