When the internet goes down at work curious discussions unfold. Today it was yet again on the sorest subjects of all: patriotism, nationalism, genocide, public policy, etc (Why can't we have a typical watercooler conversation about the latest episode of House?).
There is a simple reason why I try to stay away from politics. It's one of those things that I have given up on, regardless of being very passionate and obnoxiously opinionated about it. I've given up because screaming my head off at the TV screen seems to produce no results. Voting for one side or the other seems to be about as effective as screaming at the television: it's always a choice between "a giant douche and a turd sandwich".
So far as someone is in this game for personal gain and not for idealogical reasons, I wouldn't put it past them to sell their mother, let alone their country.
And this is true about politics in any country.
And yet as much as I try to stay away from politics, the discussion with
miaceq_hayer was lively, animated (to say the least), and not uninteresting.
But even by the time we got internet again the age old truth stood unwavered: "opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one, and thinks that everbody else's stinks".
