job hunting

So, here it is, the middle of July and I haven’t posted in a dog’s age. I don’t really know where to begin, but I guess I’ll just start writing and see where this goes…

I’m still working at Discovery Centre, but I’m in the process of looking for other employment. I’ve been with the Centre for 4.5 years now, and I think I have done all I can do. There’s not really anything else for me to do, and there are no positions I can strive toward. I can stay here and stagnate for a year, or I can try to find something that will allow for growth. I really love the Disco, but I really resent the roll I now play. I have never wanted to be an assistant anything, yet the one skill I have refined over the last year has been taking lunch orders. I also believe that the Centre is completely under staffed, and my attempting to patch up so many holes has to stop. You can’t get your superiors to fix a problem that they don’t know exists.

As for looking for new places to work… got any ideas? I would really like to stay on the education/museum type route, but I can also round out other aspects of my resume. I have applied at the Halifax Regional School Board for a variety of librarian-type positions… but I’m kinda stuck with where to go next. I will go to some of the other museums in town, but it sorta feels like I’m selling myself to the competitors. I’m sure I’ll get over that…

My new roomie and I are working out well. I think we’ve finally established a pattern, that will turn into a groove come the fall.

Micah’s at Waterloo right now giving some kind of math talk at an undergrad conference. At last report, he was encouraging his last audience to jeer and rewarding them with cans of beer. … what can I say… he’s a character and he enjoys what he does.

Other than that, I’ve been camping, playing lots of board games, taking dance classes, reading Harry Potter, cooking, singing and generally staying busy. The summer has been good and I’m looking forward to change come the fall.
