She's recovered from Jaenelle's latest gaffe, and found her way back to her room in a state of strange melancholy. She throws her windows open to the setting sun, and stands there awhile; then falls to pacing.

sagramore, melou

Melou is honestly feeling a little sad, after this last visit with Anna, a little sad and a little guilty, and missing her more than he feels is right, and for that reason it seems best to talk to his grandmother--at least he can talk to his grandmother. So he seeks her out.

She turns again from the window as he comes in, offering her hands.

Which he accepts for a moment. "Good even, grandmother."

Melou hesitates. "I--I have a trouble."

"Come, sit." She guides him toward the chairs by the window.

He follows along dutifully, and sits down, clasping his hands between his knees.

"There," brushing her hand over his hair before seating herself across from him. "Tell me, sweet."

"I met a girl, a child, a few months past, and liked her well. We spoke, that's all, of her, and I showed her the garden and the fountain. I thought she had died because she was here, but she disappeared. And--to-day she came again, but she wasn't a child any longer, she was a maiden. And she had remembrance of me."

Morgause frowns slightly, leaning on the arm of the chair.

"And I was glad to see her," quietly. He looks more sad than mournful just now. "And we walked, and spake, and then I kissed her. I should not have done so. I have a lady I would marry. I gave disrespect unto my lady, and that lady, that I made bold when I had another promise to keep."

Why does this sound familiar?

She studies him for a moment. "And now?"

"I would she was still here, and I'm glad she isn't. What says that of me?"

Morgause leans back in her chair with a little sigh. "Thou'rt young," she says gently. "Full young, and may be allowed a little folly."

"She spake so sweetly." He looks down at his hands. "And was older, and, I think, wiser, than my lady is."

"Ay." Softly, understanding.
