life in numbers

#1 I cannot possibly have caught yet another cold? Seriously?! It's the fifth since I moved to Munich at the end of August last year. Bad sign, anyone?

#2 I'm going to Cologne for an academic conference on Thursday. Lots of post-grads talking about their research - I feel a little overwhelmed and out of place at such events, because I still have a hard time seeing myself as a 'serious' academic. But, we'll see. Otherwise, no news.

#3 Clearly, mindless entertainment is my forte. Therefore,

1. Do you still talk to the person you lost your virginity to?
Uhm, no. I couldn't, even if I wanted to (which I don't), since I have forgotten his last name and have no idea where he lives.

2. What would you do with 1,000 plastic spoons?
Throw most of them away? I doubt there's a charity which would need plastic spoons and my apartment is rather small.

3. What kind of music did you listen to in elementary school?
It was the late eigthies, so Madonna, Michael Jackson, Queen... My favorite song at the time was "Self Control" by Laura Brannigan. Don't laugh! I was eight and didn't know any better.

4. What is the best thing about your current job?
That I don't have one?

5. Have you ever felt betrayed by your best friend?
Really, truly betrayed? No. Maybe I felt wronged in high school, when we both had a crush on the same guy and she started making out with him right in front of me. But, it's not as if I had better rights, so no betrayal.

6. Are you against same sex marriage?
No, and I wish this kind of question wouldn't even be an issue.

7. Have you been on a date in the past week?
I was out, but not on date. :-( I really want to go out on a fabulous date, but there aren't any guys...

8. Where are you going on your next vacation?
No idea. Maybe to San Francisco on a transatlantic booty call. Kidding! I think.

9. Quote a song lyric: And my mind just went blank. No, not a song.

10. Are most of the friends in your life new or old?
College old, that is about four years.

11. Do you own any furniture from Ikea?
Sadly, most of my furniture is from IKEA.

12. Do you like your parents?
Yes, very much. I've liked them a whole lot better ever since I moved out for college, though.

13. Do you still live with them?
No, and I don't think I ever could again. It's okay for maybe a week or even two, but no longer.

14. What state/country are you from?
Germany (Baden-Wuerttemberg)

15. Tell us about the last conversation you had:
My baby brother called me to tell me when and where we would have the barbecue tonight.

16. Where do you see yourself in one month?
Enjoying summer, making huge progress with my thesis, and hopefully going out on a date or two. Not to sound desperate, but I'm not good with the dry spells.

17. What is your favorite smell?
It's hard to just pick one favorite. Right now, I'd say cinnaemon.

18. What is your dream car?
I'm not that into cars. Maybe a shiny, fast BMW convertible.

19. What do you fear the most?
Losing a loved one.

20. What is the time and the outside temperature at the moment?
1:26 pm, 22° Celcius.

21. Have you ever done anything vindictive to your coworkers?
No. I've certainly bitched and complained about them behind their backs, but that was never vindictive.

22. What annoys you the most?
Ignorance paired with Intolerance.

23. Have you ever Played Spin the Bottle?
Yes, a long time ago, when I was eleven or twelve, I think.

24. What reminds you most of your childhood?
My parents' home - that is, certain smells and views that I can't even describe.

25. Have you ever liked someone but never told them?
Are you kidding? That's how I spent my high school years, waiting for my crushes to notice but never telling them myself. It didn't work out very well for me.

26. If you could spend one night with any person (dead or alive), who would you spend it with and why?
I think I'd want to get to know one of my ancestors who lived a couple of hundred years ago, to get some first hand experience on what times were like back then and how much we might have in common. Learn about family history, that kind of thing.

27. Have you ever had a crush on your sister's friend?
Don't have a sister. And I never had a crush on my brother's friends, either.

28. Have you ever been to a nude beach?
No, but I've gone topless myself before.

29. Have you ever had sex on the beach?
No, and I don't think I want to, either. All that sand in the wrong places...

30. Have you ever had a stalker?
Not a stalker, precisely, but there was a really creepy guy I worked with a couple of years ago who kept calling and emailing me, asking me out for dates even though I told him repeatedly to leave me alone. He was a thirty-something post-doc then and I was a twenty-years old undergrad, we were both working on a research team and he was sort of my boss. When I finally found the courage to tell the department secretary how much this was bothering me (though he never tried to touch me or anything), she told me that he had tried that before with another girl. She took it up to the professor who was head of the department, but he didn't do anything because he said nothing much had happened and, basically, they couldn't blame the guy for trying. I'm still so pissed off when I think back to that. I still get the occasional email which I instantly delete.

31. Have you ever gone skinny dipping?
Yes.

32. What are one of your hobbies?
Eating? Reading. Cooking.

33. Have you ever gone to a party where you were the only sober one?
I don't think I've ever been the only one.

34. Have you ever been cheated on?
Not that I know of.

35. Have you ever had sex with one of your LJ friends?
No.

36. What are your goals in life?
They change and adapt every once in a while. I guess it sounds sappy, but it all comes down to being happy, being a good person and making myself and my family proud.

37. What are your favourite shows?
Right now, Grey's Anatomy. Although lately, the writers seem to be determined to kill that show.

38. Have you ever lied to your parents?
Yes, lots of times, I'm afraid.

39. Have you ever been out of the US?
Most of my life, seeing as I grew up and live in Germany. But I have been out of Germany a lot, too.

40. Do you have any regrets?
There were certainly things I've done or not done that I've regretted afterwards, but nothing too big. I wouldn't change anything.

41. Where do you see yourself within the next 5 years?
Done with my studies, certainly! Other than that, I don't have any fixed plans.

42. Have you ever eaten 3 meals from 3 different fast food places in 1 day?
Certainly not here. Maybe while I was on vacation in the US, because I considered a lot of the stuff I ate there fast food.

43. Have you ever gotten so wasted you didn't know what was going on?
I've always remembered afterwards what happened, so no. But there have been moments while I was drunk when I didn't really figure out what was going on anymore...

44. Have you ever spied on someone you had a crush on?
Not waiting in front of their houses, looking through hedges kind of spying. But I have googled and searched on facebook, which I guess is modern kind of spying...

45. Have you ever met someone you only knew through LJ?
Not yet, but I hope to do so some day.

46. Have you ever slept with one of your co-workers?
Nope.

47. Have you ever seen your best friend naked?
Sure, when we were changing.

48. Have you peed your pants recently?
No?!

49. What would you do if you won $100 million?
I would travel the world, invest a third of it, give another third to charity and maybe buy a house or two.

50. Have you had sex this week?
No, but I'm still reeling from last week's. Is it wrong that I can't get that out of my head?! Don't say it.
