Wow, what a crazy day.
Went out to Mt. Evans in the morning. Drove up the worlds largest paved auto road. The last time I was there I was with Aric in his miata in the middle of the night so going out this time was a lot better than last time. If we were to fall off the side of a cliff atleast I would be able to see where I was falling instead of falling into the eternal abyss of night.
Anyway, we took a quick bath room break at Echo Lake. It was so pretty! We got out of the car and were greeted with what seemed like thousands of tiny blue dragonflies, some just buzzing around some continuing with the circle of life. The Lake it self was gorgeous. The weather was fantastic aswell.
We made our way up after Echo and stopped again at Summit Lake. At this point we were way up in elevation wise and the view from there was better than the last. Surrounded by the apline tundra, the wild flowers were so tiny because of the altitude. You had to be really carefull not to step on any because it would take years for them to grow back.
After Summit we trekked along a little further and we were met by a small family of mountain sheep. We caught them in a bad transition time, their fur was half way through it's shedding period, but the baby sheep were so cute! Afterwards saw a couple of marmots and then a heard of mountain goats. I didn't see any males with their large horns but there were a few juvenilles and female goats
After about the 2.5 hour drive we finally made it to the top. Had lunch with a few and then ran around the old burned down resturant and climbed the rocks, getting in touch with my mountain goat side.
On the way down we stopped a visitor area to take a quick walk around the place where some of the oldest trees in the world existed.
We got a lot of awesome pics and had a pretty good time in general.
Once we got back to Winter Park, visited with Grandma and Grandpa for a bit and then ate lunch at Carlos and Maria's, a new mexican resturant in the area. It was pretty good. After dinner, played a game of "screw your neighbor" and now here I sit, typing away.
It was a really fun but exhausting day. So I think I'll be hitting the sack here in a just a few.
I have photo albums going up on Facebook. So far, I have one finished album here:
