[Anne hadn't pushed the button. And though she knows it was the right thing to do -- or not to do, rather -- she still can't help feeling that maybe, if she had, she would have been reunited with Arthur and Merlin, even if only for a bit. She feels empty without them around; her life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes, but she cannot take

As they head for the fountain, Sayyida rather fancying the idea of washing the blood off there rather than at home, they are abruptly confronted with the young girl that the Master recognises shortly as the dramatic girl he met at Penny's Thanksgiving dinner. But it won't do for her to see Sayyida, not like this. The Master smiles, and strides forward, serving as a distraction for Sayyida to hurry into the shadows.]
Hello! Isn't this nice: an unexpected meeting!

I'm Harry, if you don't remember me. In all fairness, there was a rather engaging puppy there at the time. [He looks at her, analyses her expression.] Are you quite alright?

That's clearly not true, and I can tell. What sort of explanation do you have for wandering around the City at this time of the night, not dressed for the weather?
[His tone is now that of someone her age, disbelieving, anxious to prove her wrong. It's not a far step for him.]

Fair enough. I'm sorry I offended you.
[Her face now clean, Sayyida walks around the fountain to stand at the Master's heel.]

Is that your pet?
Reply
Not quite. She's my daemon. She probably won't last past midnight tonight, though I've been surprised by curse duration before.
{Sayyida walks a little past the Master and closer to Anne, not speaking quite yet. Just grinning.]

I had a daemon once.

[Sayyida speaks for the first time, looking up at Anne.]
What sort?

[While at the same time Sayyida speaks.]
Hardly a--
[The Master tugs sharply on her mane to stop her from saying anything else.]
You're certain you're all right? You don't want to--oh. Well, I suppose I'm not wearing my coat. But a hot drink, or anything of the sort?
