[Accidental Video Post]
[A small, scrawny girl with bright red hair, a raggedy dress and an even more raggedy carpet bag stands in the middle of the square, looking very, very lost.]
This isn't how I imagined Prince Edward Island at all. Excuse me --
[She turns around, but the train station she had expected to find is not there. Her eyes go wide.]
This is definitely not Prince Edward Island.
[She sits down at the edge of the fountain and thinks.]
Perhaps I stepped in a fairy circle and was transported to the land of the fae. At any moment, Queen Titania will come forward and welcome me to her court as her long lost daughter.
But what if she doesn't? What if, instead, she sees me as an invader and has me thrown into prison? There will be snakes and rats and bugs and I'll only be let out to provide entertainment for the court. But one of the guards will fall madly in love with me and he'll help me escape and we will have to flee from the palace, doomed to be hunted by Titania's forces for the rest of our lives!
[Her eyes light up -- a lifetime of being hunted by a fairy queen seems more romantic than exhausting. Just as quickly, though, the light dies.]
No fairy guard will fall in love with me. Who could love someone with hair as red as mine?
[She picks up one of her braids and glares at it, as if glaring will force it to apologize and change color. Chestnut brown, perhaps, or a beautiful raven black.
Eventually she drops the braid and looks around her.]
How romantic it would be to fall asleep by a fountain, the light reflecting off the fountain dancing across your skin like a blanket of starlight. And if you got thirsty, you could just cup your hands and drink from the crystal water.
[That reminds her. She puts down her carpet bag and scoops up some water. She drinks it and makes a face.]
The reality is not quite as romantic as the imagination.
