Oh yeah. I remember that novel. The ending sure teared me up, but - but... the dog had rabies. That's pretty dangerous and it could've bitten someone and the book would've been even sadder, wouldn't it?

But he died protecting them! It's... he died like a hero. And everything has to die eventually, right? Most things. And dogs, especially, since they don't tend to live long and all. He had it better than most dogs.

Oh. Um. I'm not really a - a dog person, but as far as I know, 7-10 years is pretty normal, depending on the breed and how you treat it.
