Thanks and an early new year's resolution

I hope I thanked everyone who wished me a happy birthday. I was treated much better than I deserve, that's for sure. ;) And this has inspired me to do better myself when it comes to remembering birthdays and festive whatnots starting now (with
cruisedirector, my fellow one-time Sagittarian - I don't know what the heck we're supposed to be now with that 13th sign thrown into the mix. *grin*). I've been lax the last two or three years. I even have an overflowing pile of birthday and general "how's it going" cards I've been collecting for family and snail-mail friends, so I could keep on top of things like that. And the reason the pile is overflowing is because having them at my ready fingertips apparently hasn't been enough of a kick in the ass, and I feel uber-guilty about that. So I'm vowing to change, and I'm not waiting for the new year to start.

Honestly, though, I've been in an increasing funk as the year has been winding down. Losses have weighed much heavier on me than I anticipated - family and friends. But my birthday was nice - low-key, but nice. A good weekend was had by all, I think. :)

Last week, as I swore to do, I pushed myself in a marathon of Christmas shopping - to the point that I know I way overdid it for the family instead of being more practical. But I know exactly why I overdid it - it's called overcompensating for those losses we suffered this year, and for having to readjust our outlook on who and what is comprising of the family unit now.

I also wrapped everything, and at least three nights I had to ply myself with ibuprofen because my whole body was one big knot. I think I've spent more time on my feet than not this last week. But all that is pretty much done, except for the inevitable little last-minute things I'll think to pick up. Now everything is under the tree and the house looks festive, and that's helping with the mood swings - most of the time. ;)

Luckily ABC and the Syfy Channel made wrapping duty a somewhat happy occasion by airing holiday specials of their respective comedies and dramas. The out-of-canonical timeline Christmas episodes of Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Haven were especially welcome and fun, particularly given the mostly heavy way those seasons ended. I enjoyed every one of them, but I think Eureka did an especially brilliant job of paying homage to every kind of animation style there is.

And speaking of brilliant, I was really surprised how many fans I read who didn't like the last episode of Leverage. The Spousal Unit and I, OTOH, thought it was one of their best episodes yet! We howled the entire time. Then again, we've watched almost every episode of The Office since it's been on the air, and were very impressed by the way the Leverage writers managed to bring that series flavor to the episode in question while keeping all the Leverage characters and relationships intact. Seriously, we loved it. :D

Anyway, I just wanted to post to say thanks again! Now I'm going to go take apart my dvd/vhs (yes, still have some of those) shelves and re-file everything in some semblance of order. Trying futilely to find a particular movie last night has led to this latest housekeeping epiphany. ;)

personal, haven, warehouse 13, leverage, eureka
