The 411 on my land line fubar

If anyone who knows me and my land line number and has maybe been trying to call it for the last, oh I don't know, three days, it's apparently out. I wouldn't have known this because, unlike the last few times it's been out, I have a dial tone and can call out on my phone. But no one can call in - rings and rings on their end, nada on mine.

The Spousal Unit and I were coming back home Saturday afternoon, noted an AT&T repair truck on the main road to my subdivision, and said to each other, jokingly, that's not a good sign. But, again, since the phone seemed to be working from our end, we quickly forgot about it - until The Sibling tried calling me yesterday.

I called AT&T this morning and they're supposed to be investigating it. This is like the fourth or fifth time this has happened to the line over the last couple of years - and I'd only ever know about it when The Maternal Unit tried calling my house. Before that, I have never in my entire life had so many problems with a land line - which, frankly, I only keep for two reasons. Foremost, after we were slammed with three hurricanes in six weeks in 2004, we learned the hard way that cell phone towers don't hold up well in 120-mph inland winds, and when everything else goes out the old-fashioned land line may stay in working order, unless your land line is a cable line, then you're screwed.

The other reason is that we've had this phone number since the 80's - either when we first moved to Orlando or when we bought our first house in '84. Either way, I've had it forever and want to keep the number.

But I have to tell you, AT&T, you are so frakking not selling me on changing to your U'verse cable bundle package when you can't even keep a simple land line in working order!

In the meantime, Verizon workers are striking, though this is not supposed to affect cell phone users, which is what we are. Oy to the vey. But my cell is working fine - so, if anyone needs to contact me today, like vala3, call my cell. If someone wants to reach me and doesn't know my cell #, send me a pm.

Right now I'm just waiting for Obama to come on the air and tell me exactly how much cat food I need to be investing in for sustenance given how fast our retirement accounts are dwindling away.

On the upside, it's finally raining which means, temporarily, we are out of the trip-digit heat indexes for the time being (until it stops and it's steam-bath time).
