Congrats to NY for stepping into the light and the 21st century with its passing of the marriage equality bill. I was twittering Friday night (chatting about the Casey Anthony trial - *ack*) when the good news came through. Yippee!
So that's, I think, six states so far? We're slowly moving out of the prehistoric age. Very, very slowly.
And on that note, I was trawling my communities yesterday morning and saw
this pretty piece of artwork. *guuuuuh* Made me weak in the knees. *happy siiiigh*
Casting spoiler *squee* for season two of HAWAII FIVE-0! Casting spoilers for the next season of DEXTER. Interesting! FOX sets their premiere dates for the fall. The new series they've got coming up that I'm most interested in is Alcatraz, but that doesn't premiere until the spring. Terra Nova looks boffo, so it's either going to be boffo or, what usually happens, lame-o. Still, I'll be checking it out for sure.
Oh, and Fringe premieres the same night as Supernatural. If NBC premieres Grimm on Sep 23 as well, it's going to be a tough one for those genre numbers. I thought the trailer for Grimm looked intriguing, but I read reviews from Mo Ryan's gang at AOL that weren't all that positive. We'll see. Of course, Fringe went out on that gobsmacking mind-bending, if not a bit worrisome, finale that's got me itching for spoilers sooner than later.
On the flip side, Supernatural's alternately "bored now"/"are you fucking kidding me?" finale has me feeling very relieved the damn thing is on hiatus; and the later it comes back, the better for my mental health. So feel free to bump it a week or a month, CW. No anticipation here, other than expecting more of the creatively bankrupt same. I still want the series to finish up on a high note, I really do, but I don't see it happening.
Gotta get my creative high from fannish endeavors, obviously; and on that note, check out this meme.

smilla02 I've never read the George R. R. Martin books, but a couple folks I know who have read them thought the first season of Game of Thrones was well done. The season finale certainly set up the landscape for a very interesting second season.
That last scene with Daenerys and the wee dragons was wicked. I really liked how her character progressed throughout the season.
I guess I should have been upset that Bean's character of Eddard was beheaded the week before. Not knowing the books, sure, I thought he was a lead that would last throughout the series. But Ned turned into such a putz by the end that I found it hard to care. The only thing I didn't like is that his character really seemed to have little purpose overall. But Tyrion is our fav character anyway.
Going into the season finale of The Killing knowing the two points that pissed off most viewers had me prepared, so when I finally saw it, I wasn't all that peeved.
I'm trying to remember if the showrunner ever promised that Rosie's killer would be revealed by the end of the 13 episodes, and I don't recall, but maybe she didn't. I think what got viewers anticipating a pay-off was how AMC advertised the series all season as wrapping up by the last week. And those of us Rubicon fans who had the rug pulled out from under us when we thought that mystery would be wrapped up only to have the whole thing left on a cliffie with no renewal have good reason to want these kinds of shows to get to the point and tell their story as if there isn't another season on the horizon, because there too often isn't.
That being said,
this reviewer has a good point, and the fact is they did only have 13 episodes and could benefit from a second season to finish it - IF they attack the renewal with that goal in mind. Given the widespread backlash, I've no doubt the producers and the network will insist on wrapping up the case at the end of the second season.
The bigger problem is they practically exhausted all the suspects by setting up most of them to look like the red-herring killer of the week that there aren't too many left, unless they're going to introduce new suspects in the second season, which they'd have to do, I think. The main qualm I have with the finale is the bullshit twist with Holder setting up Richmond to take the fall. That's not who that character is, or was all season long. Makes it look like he's been on the take from the current mayor from the beginning, and I don't like it or believe it. *grump*
Tonight is the return of Leverage - yay!
RIP Peter Falk. Lt Columbo was my man. I loved him. :(
Yesterday The Spousal Unit and I checked out
Tibby's New Orleans Kitchen in Winter Park. YUM! Terrific food, plus sitting in the restaurant made us feel a bit like we were in an episode of Treme. We're putting it on our list of fav culinary haunts. I can't wait to go again. *slurp* Maybe we'll take
kronette when she comes to visit in a couple of weeks, if that kind of food is her thing. :)
We got two straight days of strong storms through here on Friday and Saturday. My porch is still soaking, but it was a welcome relief, for sure. Not only did we desperately need the rain, but it brought those temps down some. The only drawback is that TSU and I were at the mall when the deluge hit yesterday, and there was no end in sight for at least a couple of hours and we had to brave the roads to get home. It wasn't pretty - I was white-knuckling it the whole way.
