Goodbye to LOST

May 23, 2010 15:46

It's Lost Finale Day!, and we're trying to get everything done we need to do so we can hunker down starting at 7 pm for the 4+ -hour long event. I'm psyched!

Given the seeming (at one time) similarities in the story lines being told by Supernatural and Lost, I'm glad I saw the Supernatural finale first, and here's why. Since I assume it's pretty much impossible for the Lost writers to truly and completely tie up every loose end to every fan's satisfaction, I've still no doubts that Lost will satisfy me in ways it's CW counterpart did not if for no other reason than the fact that Cuse and Lindelof didn't crap all over almost two full years (maybe more) of mytharc and characterization, and flush it all down the toilet for an 11th hour whiplashing watered-down change of direction, and a tossed-off teleplay by the series creator, who couldn't even be bothered to come up with an actual story line on his own, that bore little to no relation to much of the 99 episode canonical set-up that came before the one wherein everything suddenly went by the wayside.

Yes, I bitch because I love and I expected a lot better, because I was promised a lot more. And better.

So without even seeing it, I already know that the Lost finale wins by default, and I'll be more content with its swan song. And so Lost wins.

Because I was fully expecting Jack to step up and take over Jacob's role, I'm starting to wonder since he did that in this last episode if it's a little too easy, too cut and dried. Jack seems like the perfect choice - having gone from that man of science who wanted nothing more than to get off the island, to the man of faith who wanted nothing more than to return to the island because he felt his destiny was there. And certainly after drinking the mojo juice Jacob gave him, a change really did appear to wash over Jack.

And, yet, there's Sideways!Desmond who seems to be very much playing the Jacob role over there. Obviously the goal is to get everyone together at the recital. I have to assume that's where the time-line merge will take place.

From what I understand, a lot of fans apparently didn't like the Across the Sea episode from the week before where we saw the origins of Jacob and his twin, the Man in Black (seriously, no name?), and got the identities of "Adam and Eve". But I really liked it - and I don't know if I knew that Allison Janney was doing an episode of Lost and just forgot, or because I really haven't been keeping up with even casting spoilers most of the season that I didn't know. Regardless, her appearance came as a complete surprise to me, and I thought she rocked the role.

Because we're committed to watching Lost live, I'll have to snag tonight's Tudors and Treme On!Demand. Yes, we finally caught up with Treme, and I'm loving it. With all the glorious music and the attention to food and culture, not to mention seeing old actor favs from The Wire and Deadwood, it's a very comfortable kind of series, even given it's placement in the post-Katrina aftermath clusterfuck. That's about the best way I can describe why I like it.

Though I have to wonder what the producers are thinking now with the BP oil disaster that's playing out in the Gulf five years after the time their series is currently set. Talk about having no luck if it's not bad luck.

I don't know if anyone but The Spousal Unit and I saw the Pilot of The Good Guys that premiered last Wednesday, starring Brad Whitford and Colin Hanks. I'm really not a big fan of Whitford, but I have to say we thought the Pilot was a riot, especially since Whitford seems to be falling into a very Shatneresque identity at this stage in his career.

I guess the Pilot episode didn't exactly pull in big numbers on Wednesday night, but FOX is replaying it twice more before the start of its summer run, and if you haven't seen it, I recommend checking it out. Seriously, we laughed out loud a lot, and it seems like the perfect fun summer series. But, no, I SO will not be slashing Whitford's and Hanks' characters - that will not be happening. *gag*!

I tried to follow all the Upfronts tweets from last week, and by the end of it I couldn't tell you what's coming up this fall and what isn't. It's all a freaking blur, which is probably just as well since I've stopped trying to predict what I think I'll like and not like. I'll wait until the fall season starts and see what's what then.

However, I did take special note of the fact that SyFy greenlit a EUREKA/WAREHOUSE 13 crossover event. Sweet! And it makes perfect sense.

We finally got out to see Iron Man 2 this afternoon. Pretty much as I expected - enjoyable, not the adrenaline rush the original was (then again, the sequels rarely are), but a decent popcorn movie.

the good guys, lost, eureka, upfronts, supernatural, warehouse 13, iron man, treme
