Giving thanks for a relatively stress-free holiday

Over the weekend our Thanksgiving plans changed radically. The Boy decided to pull a double shift today, so he wasn't going to be home at any time for the big feast. Then the Sister-in-Law called to invite us to her house for the usual big Thanksgiving with extended family, which was a surprise as last year her Spousal Unit swore that was going to be the last time they hosted said event - which we should have known wouldn't take because the SiL actually lives for this stuff.

Of course, I find all this out literally a couple hours after I bought the turkey. Had I waited one more day ... Guess I'll just save it for Christmas.

So instead of having to spend two days cooking, I only had to prepare the sides I was bringing, and The Spousal Unit baked two pies. Wednesday's weather was absolutely dreadful - dreary, stormy, just nasty outside. But that was a cold front coming through the state bringing in a much-appreciated change of weather. Today was beautiful, sunny, and cool. Perfect Thanksgiving Day weather for traveling and visiting with family. And this time The Maternal Unit got to go with us because, for once, she wasn't in the hospital.

All the food turned out terrific, no disasters on that front. Family all on their best behavior with none of the three manic-depressives in attendance. Score! ;)

Now we're home and full, and tonight I'm going to kick back and watch the Supernatural rerun of Good God, Y'all, and read a little and not think about the shit-storm of stuff I have to do over the weekend.

Oh, and the day started out fantastic as I checked my LJ when I woke up and saw this post about Amazon's early Black Friday specials, and quickly put in my order for Supernatural Season Four at $14.99. Woo-hoo! So now I don't even have to consider fighting my way to Best Buy or Target on Black Friday to pick up the set for the same in-store price. Every year I vow to avoid any kind of retail shopping from Friday-Sunday post Thanksgiving. I really don't have the temperament.

I picked up Season Three last week when it was on sale at Best Buy for $14.99 as well. My goal over hiatus is to watch seasons one-four in episode order. ;)

I hope everyone had a pleasant day!
