Happy post-Independence Day to my fellow American flisters (hope y'all had fun and fabulous weekends) - and for everyone else, a Happy Sarah Palin Incoherent Rambling Quitter Day, because who doesn't love a good freak show anytime of the year? Now Sarah and Toddric get to *koff*relax*koff* (did she ever do any actual governing anyway?) and "slay salmon." No, seriously, that's what she said - SLAY salmon. Isn't salmon a fish? Don't you fish for fish, catch fish, reel in fish? Who the hell SLAYS fish? Apparently she'll shoot at anything. What a whack job.
Besides enjoying the seemingly weekly GOP implosions of late, and losing track of the Grim Reaper's slash and burn through the celebrity community - we're well beyond the trinity quota at this point (though I'm officially sick of the relentless Michael Jackson coverage - we get it, he's still dead) - we spent most of the holiday racking up huge bills on car repairs, grilling ("slayed" salmon and turkey burgers), entertaining The Maternal Unit, marathoning episodes of Nurse Jackie (The Maternal Unit, retired RN, doesn't get Showtime), and watching Valkyrie On!Demand too.
I know a few weeks ago I stated that I wasn't immediately impressed after the Pilot episode of Nurse Jackie. But I did continue to catch the show On!Demand as they've been uploaded, and quickly overcame my apathy starting with the second episode. Now I love the series, as did The Maternal Unit. :)
The one thing I didn't do much of over the weekend is read, which is weird as I had plenty of time each evening. But for some reason I was more tired than I thought every night because each time I got all comfy in my jammies, propped up on pillows in bed, and cracked the cover, I immediately began to doze off, which has nothing whatsoever to do with my interest in the books I'm reading. I just couldn't concentrate. I think I need to force myself to sit in a chair or some other less comfortable spot when I read at night anymore so I don't get all snoozy due to the location.
After looking at
suilven's absolutely gorgeous pictures of her trip to Guernsey last week (I want to live there!), I simply had to pull out
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society from my TBR stack. I'm really enjoying this one so far, and having
suilven's pictures in my head as a real life focal point just adds another solid dimension to the tale. :)
What is this I read about about a possible
ALIEN NATION remake? I liked the old movie, but loved the original series and the TV movie follow-ups (though the series was still the best). So I'm not convinced a remake is really necessary. However, Tim Minear is writing the Pilot, so it'll totally be something worth checking out if it ever gets filmed and goes to series.
Speaking of Whedonverse employees, this still-devastated Pushing Daisies fan (the last three episodes were too-too good - *sob*!) was oh so snarkily pleased as punch to read that
Bryan Fuller has walked away from HEROES, again. I like to think he could see that the repair job needed on that show was beyond even his capabilities. Had Fuller stuck with the series after the first season, maybe the show wouldn't be the crapfest it is now. But too much damage has been done - it's best that Fuller wash his hands of the whole hot mess and create something new.
I'm really looking forward to the premiere of Warehouse 13 tomorrow night (I hope it's fun!) and, of course, the return of Eureka on Friday. It's time for Carter to get some hot lovin'!
I used one of my Dreamwidth invite codes to set up another freebie blog for myself, under a different handle. I'm still not sure what I want to do with it yet, I have some idea, but I'll have to see how it progresses.
I still have a couple of DW invites if anyone wants one. ;)
