A Friday that just happens to be the 13th

My friend's memorial service is this afternoon, and I'm off in a bit to attend that. I hate funerals/memorial services, and not just for the obvious reason. I always feel very-very uncomfortable around public displays of grief. I don't know why, but I've had difficulty with that all my life, ever since I was a kid and remember attending my paternal ( Read more... )

I hope you can make your excuses to leave as soon as the service is over. You'll have shown your respects, and avoided putting yourself through too much of the other stuff. I'm sure her family will be grateful that you came.

I know the producers of LoM were supposed to have an end-game in mind that was different than that of the Brit series, so I hope it's something they can bring to fruition sooner rather than later.

I didn't realize that. Interesting, and a little perplexing. I think of LoM as a complete story, beginning to end, and changing the ending seems more than a little obnoxious. I mean, why didn't they come up with an original idea of their own, instead of pilfering a terrific one if they didn't think it was up to snuff?

I'm still d/ling all the eps since you've recommended it on its own merits, and the day will come when I need to fill in those dreaded holes in my viewing schedule. LOL! But I'm not feeling very positively disposed to the PTB after hearing this.

I keep telling myself I can't buy anymore books until I make a significant dent in the stack - but it's HARD! *sniffle*

When I hit the library book sale and come home with baskets of stuff (to add to my unread pile ;)) I tell myself I'm more likely to read something if what I'm in the mood for is already on my shelf. It does me no good to crave a thriller if all I have are two chicklit books, or if I want a decent angsty, sexy, gay coming of age story if all that's there are three mysteries and a couple of biographies. *g*

In other words, it's all about the justifications. LOL!

I slipped out during the last song. It was a good thing I did - it was a huge crowd and the venue wasn't set up to receive that many people at all. It was nice to see how many people cared enough to show their respects.

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with arrogance. The Brit producers totally encouraged their US counterparts to change it up, seriously. I think, being a US production, they had to account for the possibility of going beyond one season (which they probably won't now), as well as the inherent changes that come with the series being set in NYC and on US soil.

I personally like most of the changes they've made so far, and I admit I'm interested in seeing a different take on the ending than a rehash of the original - if nothing else, just to see what they might come up with. Plus, from everything I read on my flist at the time, the Brit ending didn't seem to be a resounding success with many fans. I thought it was okay, but I also thought it wasn't consistent with what came before to some extent. Like, if it really was only because Sam was in a coma the whole time, and at the end he returns upon his demise, making the whole experience just a figment of his damaged and dying brain processes, then his having contact with people from his past and affecting events in the future make zero sense to me. I mean, the coma thing was always the most logical explanation - but when he was interfering with RL events, then it seemed like there had to be more going on. But it turns out there wasn't.

Anyway, we'll see what the Yanks come up with. Could be about the same, better, or worse. ;)

Yeah, that's my justification too. It's just that right now I don't have any room in my TBR basket to even fit in another book. LOL! So it's become sort of a space issue too. ;)
