Beat the Black Friday rush update

Nov 20, 2007 22:50

The week has flown by, and I had every intention of updating before this. In fact, the month has has practically come and gone and I've only managed to post twice? Oh, man, I totally lose. My bad. :(

Anyway, I did make a concerted effort to do some commenting this week, more than I have been doing recently. At least when I wasn't posting I think I used to comment pretty regularly. Now I'm lapsing on the commentary, and I really don't mean to.

On the upside, making some headway into catching up on RL. Some. Not a lot, but plodding along with something akin to consistency.

Hit the mall with The Girl Child this morning, and damn it all to hell if I don't have to go and do it again tomorrow morning because the premiere issue of Angel: After the Fall comes out tomorrow. What a crappy premiere date! I've got things to do!

Interesting things seen 'round the flist:

crysothemis posts her Joe in Burbank con report, and it's a doozy! Seen a few tidbits from another report floating around, but she brings it up close and personal. I feel like I wish badly that I was there. ;D Love to hear he's back to doing some guest-starring appearances. Sounds like I need to start tuning into Women's Murder Club again to catch his turn as an FBI agent. From what I can tell from the episode guide on IMDB, it doesn't look like his character has shown up yet, so I haven't missed him so far. Wheeeeee!

The more I hear about the ever-expanding cast additions to the new Trek flick, the more nervous I become wondering if Abrams' really knows what he's doing with this thing. Not so sure anymore. On the flip side, I'm already bowled over by the Cloverfield trailer! *shriek* Sounds more up his alley.

j_crew_guy links to this interview with Erik King (Doakes) who confirms that DEXTER has been renewed for Season 3. Though the way the story line is unfolding now, I'm seriously wondering what the future holds for King's character. *eep* ;)

Clearly I was wrong about Dexter's grand design for the manifesto in last week's episode, since this week Dexter admits he went off his own playbook by taking a page from his sociopathic fuck buddy's psychotic novella instead. And like everything else to do with Lila, it's come back to bite him in the ass in a big way. I can't believe Dexter would be so stupid - further proof that Lila is not just bad news, but very bad for Dexter's own well-being. And that's before she purposely put him in danger just to get his attention turned onto herself, yet again. BITCH MUST DIE, and die horribly. Surely now that Dexter has wholly twigged to her fucked up mind games, that's the next step for this chick, and I for one can't wait to see the grisly details.

But Dexter has bigger problems than where his lame-brained manifesto has lead Lundy and Company - Doakes is at his door, inside his door, INSIDE HIS A/C! Doakes has found the blood slides. Yikes! Given this chain of events, I can't see how there can be but one of two fates for Doakes (now that we know Dexter lives to play another season). Dexter has to kill him too; OR, he really does have to set him up as the BHB, some how, some way.

Seen 'round the net:

Okay, this makes no sense at all given the current state of Hollywood Gone Strike. NBC would really yank even a ratings-challenged series like JOURNEYMAN, one they've purposely left languish on the air specifically due to the fact that any original programming is better than NO new programming right now? Seriously, what a bone-headed maneuver.

I mean, yes, it's somewhat encouraging that the two sides have agreed to go back to the table after the T-Day holiday. But the strike isn't over at that point, and there's no guarantee anything will be worked out then or soon thereafter. And even if it is, much time has already been lost, it's going to take a while to get back up to speed - and NBC has already run out of new episodes of The Office, and they're already in place to air a premature Heroes finale on Dec 3. Two down before December's barely started. So why cancel the show now? Granted, in a normal season, this show would have been yanked weeks ago given its ratings - which is too bad because the building story line about what's really happening with Dan is just starting to kick into high gear. But since the season is a screwy, abnormal one anyway, and they've allowed it to go this long and have supposedly produced all 13 episodes originally contracted for, why not burn them off when original programming is at an absolute premium these days. This decision coming down at this late point in the game is bizarre, at best - especially when it seems there will probably only be three unaired episodes left anyway. *grrrrrrrrr*

On the upside, I guess when the hell ever the TV season does come back into play, at least fans of DIRTY, SEXY, MONEY have some assurance their show will survive. This is one I was worried about, so now I feel fairly confident it'll live on a little longer.

I do have to admit, however, that the "wedding" episode of D-S-M was not my favorite because it focused on the one character of this show I just can't warm up to, and that's the useless Karen Darling. Nothing they do with the character, the actress, or the writing for her, convinces me that Nick would carry a torch for this vapid, shallow, narcissistic waste of a human being. She's nothing, she's worthless - and until this episode, they've done a pretty good job showing us that for Nick, whatever he felt for Karen was a long-dead youthful indiscretion that didn't carry over into adulthood. After all, he's got a lovely, wonderful wife, and an adorable daughter. He has no reason whatsoever to have any dormant hang-ups. So why, all of a sudden, is Nick acting like he's still got feelings for Karen after all? *ugh* I really, really don't want them to go there. That would tarnish Nick, IMO. *shaking head*

Hey, looks like we Yanks won't have to wait long at all for the second season of TORCHWOOD on BBCA (careful of casting spoiler). That's a surprise. Though I gotta ask you Brits, seriously, 'cuz you got some 'splain' to do - WTF is up with all the Owen-love? How the bloody hell did that guy end up being the fuck-puppet of the series, the romantic male lead, the one who bangs ALL the ladies? I mean, he's gross, he's a troll. Totally eww. Something is so lost in the translation for me here. ;)

I really think I'm breaking up with House. I'm sitting here typing up this post while House is playing in the background, and the only thing that's managing to grab my attention is a commercial break for The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I'm just saying. Also, it really looks like Spencer and Morrison are on the chopping block, which makes me wonder why they were hired back this season in the first place just to make cameo appearances every week, and yet get paid as regulars? No wonder the networks were itching for a strike so they could suspend pay checks wherever they could.

I'm really pissed that Kring wasted so much time on the boring goopy-eyed twins in this now shortened season of Heroes, and not in properly giving Kristin Bell's Elle the more thorough and slow-paced introduction and build-up that her character so obviously deserved instead. There's an interesting girl here, especially given the Bob/Elle-Noah/Claire comparison/contrasts; but I feel like we've been thrown in the middle of a sentence with her and it's not fair. We missed a lot of the good parts and we're not going to get them back, especially given the truncated season. I cry foul. Bell and the fans were robbed.

I also don't like, nor do I buy at all, the rapid-fire way pretty Mohinder went all nutso Company native, all to fulfill his Isaac portrait destiny. I've hated this turn of events a lot. I just hope he's the one who hooked up Noah to Claire's blood at the end and brought him back to life. They've got to do something to redeem him for shooting Bennett, even though destiny doesn't seem to have given him a whole helluva lot of choice. *sigh*

At least West finally turned out to be somewhat less of a weenie than he's been all season long. Doesn't mean I like him much better, but I definitely hate him much less than the goopy-eyed twins. Can Sylar just hurry up and kill them and be done with it already?

Having Kensei turn out to be Adam was the one thing that finally made his character interesting. I said they had to do something quick with him to keep the character from being a complete waste of air space, and they did. I approve of that twist, though it was no surprise that he's the one killing off the original ElderHeroes. I'm just so glad the Hiro in Japan story line is over - again, too much time wasted on this overlong and almost unnecessary plot line.

Given how Matt was using his quickly morphing mind tricks on everyone around him, including Molly (*grrrr*), it sure looks like he's turning into his Nightmare Man father sooner rather than later. I think the problem with the characters of Matt and Mohinder is that the separation is just not good for their relationship. They're both much better men when they're playing house together and being all "My Two Dads". ;)

All in all, though, I do feel like the series is clumsily starting to get back on its feet; and whatever they're building up to, it's just way too soon to end it now. There's not enough momentum to have any kind of a finale on Dec 3. Not even a decent cliffhanger would do it at this point, IMO. Kring couldn't have picked a worse year to have a sophomore slump. *sigh*

I only have one thing to say about last night's Chuck - BRYYYYYYYYYYCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best line of the night: "Didn't I kill him?"(Casey) *snerk*

Okay, maybe a couple things. ;) Like, I thought I'd like Rachel Bilson's guest-starring turn a little more than I did. Sure, I thought she was cute and all, and Chuck and Lou were cute together ... but, they were no Chuck and Sarah. ;) Of course, now everything is going to be screwed up on that front with Bryce back on the scene. Or is he?

I mean, I loved it when they went back to Stanford and Chuck got to find out that the reason he was kicked out was because Bryce was actually trying to protect him from being recruited into the CIA because he thought Chuck was too good and decent a guy to get corrupted by that world. But the previews for next week make it look like Bryce might be coming back from stasis a little bit off. We'll have to see. ;)

Well, that's more convo about fannish things than I thought I'd have to say for some time. Guess I might still have it in me if I try really, really hard. ;)
