It's a bit too early for GARF, but Terry, aka Lady Raven, is at a Faire in Florida, and is low on mousies and needs more for the second weekend. I hardly ever watch TV, but today was a Ken Burns marathon on PBS (Thomas Jefferson, and then 4 hours of Lewis & Clark), and then I found WKRP in Cincinnati. And now I know who Captain Tight Pants (Mal) in Firefly reminded me of -- WKRP's Station Manager. Amazing resemblance.
I loved that show when it was new back in the 70's, and it is still hilarious now, but with an overlay of nostalgia. I had dated a former DJ a couple of years before, so all the radio stuff was familiar, and although the show was set in Ohio, it was based on WQXI, my favorite pops AM station in Atlanta back then. And OMG, one of the plot points was that Dr. Fever had beat up and demolished a phone, and he was scared to death the Phone Police were coming after him. You must understand, oh you children out there, that back then, Ma Bell owned all the telephones, and the rent on the phone was part of the monthly bill. There are improvements now, but I tell you back then, the phones did not break. My sister has only this past year replaced the wall phone that was first installed in our house in 1964 -- nearly 45 years of good service. Can't get that now.
