While completing the autopsy of a nearly unidentifiable priest, the latest in a series of homicides targeting Catholic clergy, Dana Scully recognized the work of a macabre, highly-skilled killer. This was the first time she’d seen a poniard used as a murder weapon.
Mulder could mumble all he wanted about covens, sorcerers and demon spawn: Scully knew the most terrifying monsters were flesh and blood. So while her partner met with the three geeks, researching arcane spells, she studied the evidence, calculating where the madman would strike next.
She waited, armed with her FBI training, her gun and her faith.

She was a tiny thing, Irish red and fierce, and she had excellent aim.
Farfarello mentally catalogued where the first four rounds pierced his chest, where the last two lodged in his skull, for future reference: he’d have to remember to remove them later. But for now he eyed her solemnly as she backed away, eyes round and wide in incredulity, trying to comprehend how he could still be standing, much less remain alive.
He noticed the small, delicate cross she wore, and attacked. Farfarello couldn’t feel pain, but he still took malicious pleasure in hers until her final breath.
