Abstainers Only! Beware the Hook Up Culture!

Apr 01, 2008 13:07

I guess today is the day I post a bunch of posts, whatever.

Why is it that whenever you read/hear about people talking about remaining "chaste" and "pure" until marriage that they look at safe sex education (such as distributing condoms or talking about how to use them) is "instructing people to have sex?"

I don't think there's ANYONE on this planet, from the virigin to the celibate priest to the hooker to the teenage lovers in the backseat of a car need to be "instructed" to have sex. Our bodies, tell us to do it well on its own thanks. It's like, people would be fine and free of "temptation" if there were no talk about sex and no distrubtion of protection!

It's so absurd!

Let's face it: People like sex and it's kind of necessary to make the world go round. I fully respect your right not to engage in it until you are ready. In fact, PLEASE don't have sex until you're ready! But don't look down on others for doing something you chose not to do.

And I'd like to hear about someone abstaining from sex that was not due to religious beliefs, for once. It seems like it all boils down to one thing: sin. Where's the diversity?

I swear to god, if I have to hear another stupid assertion like this one:

"Why wait? Because you’re worth it.”

which basically says that as a woman, you're not worth anything unless you're a virgin, I'll fucking scream. I never see any of this aimed at young men. It's always the woman who's value is determined by her abiltiy to hold onto that V-Card. I guess young men can't be expected to abstain from sex, by jove, they're MEN! It's naturally for them!

abstinence only crap, sex, sexuality
