Maybe the fact that I have time to blog while at work in the morning is sadly telling. And today, off the cuff, we have a short play I'll call "Exciting" for now.
It's bad.

[Lights up on CHRIS, typing on his blog in a publishing company office. He wears a hat and hoodie and probably hasn't showered. He looks tired. He is twenty-one.]
JANICE [a woman of about sixty, entering with a stack of paper]: How is your show going?
CHRIS: Oh, it's going.
JANICE: That's it?
CHRIS: We opened last night. It went really well. People liked it.
JANICE: Sounds exciting.
CHRIS: It is.
JANICE: Are there still tickets?
CHRIS: Should be. I think we're almost sold out for Saturday night, though.
JANICE: Is there one on Sunday?
CHRIS: At two, yes.
JANICE: We were thinking--weren't we, Dave!--that we should get ourselves out of the house and see one of your shows.
CHRIS: Well, this is my last one, so it's your last chance! [chuckles]
JANICE: Weren't we, Dave!
DAVE [her husband, owner of the company, offstage]: Oh boy!
JANICE: He wants to go. It was his idea.
[DAVE laughs loudly]
JANICE: We think maybe we can just get out of the house.
CHRIS: Sounds exciting.
JANICE: Right, Dave?
DAVE: They're getting snow all over the sidewalk!
JANICE: We could go to that new dining hall, too, for lunch. We could eat out. It would be fun. Then we could see a comedy. [beat] It's a comedy, right?
CHRIS: It's a MUSICAL comedy.
JANICE [squeals]: Sounds exciting!
CHRIS: It's a lot of fun.
JANICE: What's it about?
CHRIS: Zombies. And the 1950s.
JANICE: Dave! We're going, right?
DAVE [off]: Oh boy!
JANICE: What's the number?
CHRIS: 607-2410. There should be plenty of tickets left for Sunday.
JANICE [exits]: I'm going right now!
DAVE [off]: Any questions, Chris?
CHRIS: Nope!
DAVE [off]: Did you hear about the Mackinac Bridge?
CHRIS: No.
DAVE [off]: Funny story.
CHRIS: Sounds exciting.
[Lights down.]
