Sort of kidding. ...Anyway, it's quite something to see what power does to a person. The way humans behave in situations where some tear in the usual day-to-day makes a free-for-all is pretty gross. It seems like time and time again disasters or panics (or wars or floods or droughts) happen and we get this glimpse of our animalistic selves who operate below the surface of out socially-imposed civility... Humans are pretty monstrous when stripped down to their basic imperatives. Seriously, people in life rafts (or on snowy mountainsides) EAT each other.

When power comes without accountability, bad shit happens. It's all over the place right now; take a look at the last sixty years of "leaders" in various parts of the planet. Germany, Chile, Nicaragua, Argentina, Bosnia, Rwanda, the United States....blah blah blah.

But I digress. I guess one of my many points is that police, paramedics, etc, are all made of people (ie, they're not much more than animals with a longer list of social mores to comply with). People do sucky things when they can get away with it.
