Canadian Disability Lawyer in Persian Gulf

When tigrlily-61 left for a year in the United Arab Emirates, I thought she'd pretty much left LJ behind. I was startled (and pleased) to see I was wrong, and for anyone on my flist with an interest in disability, feminism,* Britain, the Persian Gulf, I want to send you to a post of hers from this past March about her attendance at a disability conference called "Access Abu Dhabi." (Why Britain? She lays into John Major something fierce.)

And on the subject of disability in other nations...

I just finished a couple of small projects with MDRI, which is Mental Disability Rights International. If you're interested in disability issues - all of them, not just mental illness or intellectual impairments - there are reports on them in these nations at their website: Serbia, Argentina, Kosovo, Romania, Turkey, Russia, Peru, Uruguay, Hungary.

Belle, MDRI just did a television programme in November with the Duchess of York; perhaps you saw it?

*E.g., aren't you dying to know the difference between a niqab and a hijab? Yeah, me too. *sigh*
