Sherlock Holmes and the Shadwell Shadows by
James Lovegrove My rating:
4 of 5 stars This one is pretty much what it says on the label: Sherlock Holmes meets the Lovecraft Mythos, with a liberal dose of Naming Names from said Mythos, & a general feel of secret history. Want to know how Watson really got wounded in Afghanistan? How the Great Detective actually met his devoted chronicler? It's all right here, & a great deal of fun if you aren't looking for in-depth Victorian atmosphere (which seemed a little lacking at points).
If you're a Lovecraft and Holmes fan looking for light adventure -- & a fairly intelligent exploration of this crossover concept -- you won't be disappointed. However, I did obtain this Audible edition via Audible's new Plus program. I'm honestly not sure I'd rate it as a full credit purchase, but it's definite worth a sale purchase in whatever format you enjoy.
