i have been meaning to write about two events that shook up me up two weeks ago. first while i was in the country's cultural capital, i heard news of a horrible event perpetrated against lgbt citizens, something that caused me to cancel my plans and return home immediately. last week i went to vigil for the victims of this event where the country's venerable president spoke and said that the crime committed hurt all of us, something that gave me some amount of comfort.

on my way back on the original saturday night, i found myself witnessing a deportation of migrant workers. many have come from africa and asia seeking the better life that refuge from tyranny that brought so many of the country's founders here. yet they will not have that chance, for they have fallen victim to a new national campaign of immigration enforcement. while i agree that law and order are critical to any country's survival, basic humanity along with the media and economic savvy to know that non-tradition immigrants contribute to the national endeavor.

in other news, i am making may way to a new unit next week. while my experience in my current position has been interesting, i yearn to be closer to the field and receive greater professional independence. after being mislead by my commander for a number of months about my supposedly imminent attendance at the officers' course, i was left with no choice but to submit a special form, generally a soldier's last resort in matters of reassignment which was approved. thankfully the powers that be approved my request, and i will be going for reassignment on monday.

in the meantime, i am doing my last weekend shift in the office. while i am somewhat sad to be leaving the excellent peers with whom i serve, i will not miss having a commander who treats her soldiers as disposable cups to be crushed and tossed out after serving their purpose.
