I just inhaled a sesame seed. Ouch. *coughs some more*
In real business, today was my first day of classes. I'm doing the Philosophy/Theology segment, which means tutorial is all philosophy (Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes, Hume, Kant, Nietzsche), and seminar is theology (the Bible, Kierkegaard, etc.). I'm also doing my precept on Jung, which is quite possibly the coolest thing in the world. SO EXCITED. Anyway, this morning (and every MTWF mornings for the rest of the summer), I had tutorial, and that was actually really interesting. I've had class with most of the people in there, although there's this one husband/wife pair who have NEVER been in the same class before because the school always tries to split them up, and now they are, so that'll be really entertaining. There are also a couple teachers from public schools I taught at this past year (the St John's graduate program was originally designed for teachers and was solely a summer program), and a couple others I don't know. There are some SERIOUSLY strong personalities in that class, which erm...haha two of the people already were about to start going at it, on the FIRST DAY, so I'm getting ready to sit back and watch the bloodshed. Also, I'm done being all quiet and polite, so I imagine I'll be throwing my gloves in the ring as well. Anyway. Interesting stuff, really.
On that same subject, question for you all. And no, you don't have to have read Plato's Meno to answer. Do you think it's possible to arrive at the same conclusion as someone else if your entire approach is based on personal/life experience rather than theory? That is, do you think, say, two people could arrive at the same impression of good writing through discussion, without ever bringing in things like grammar, literary theory, etc.? (This also pertains to a bigger question that
longleggedgit and I were discussing the other day, but I'll save that one for later.)
Philosophy aside, I've been churning out fics like a madwoman. This past week, I wrote
Baka Oishi (Eiji/Oishi, R),
Four-Ever (Tezuka/Fuji/Atobe/Oshitari, R),
Eyes Wide Open (Tezuka/Fuji, R), and
Real Men Wear Spandex (crackfic, various pairings, PG-13). WTF. That's like...more than I've written the rest of the YEAR. I also started my followup, i.e. prequel, to Four-Ever, which will be...yeah, a novel-length vampire!PoT fic. *headdesks*
I think I'm especially proud of Eyes Wide Open - that's the sort of writing I enjoy most of all, the in-depth character studies and the focus on sensory perception, introspection, and the language itself. Also, I'm a huge fan of violent possessive boyrubbing. *coughs* I'm also really happy with Real Men Wear Spandex - it only took about an hour to write, but oh god, PoT crackfic is so unbelievably rewarding, especially when it involves boys ending up in really tight clothing. And yes, ftr, I did take rhythmic gymnastics when I was younger.
So I have about...five hours before I have to leave for class again - seminar tonight, which I'm all in knots about because discussing the Bible is SCARY, so I think I'm going to try to write some more. What is everyone else up to this lovely Monday afternoon? What's going on with you these days? New hobbies, new obsessions, new developments at work/home/whatever? Something you're just dying to talk about? Bring it on! ♥
