Well I made Talon's Wiccaning candle on Saturday night! The kitchen was nasty dirty, but Serenity helped me do the dishes on Friday, then pretty much all day Saturday I cleaned that room like it hasn't been cleaned in probably a year. I even washed the salt and pepper shakers! (they were horribly gunky btw) I told Chris that maybe if I worked more magick in the kitchen, I'd be more inclined to keep it tidy. :) Perhaps a summer delving into the craft of kitchen witchery? I think so! Anyway, I set up a small altar on the counter; sun/moon disc, goddess and god tiny statues, salt bowl, and candles; and I put a burner of patchouli incense on the back of the stove. I cast my circle to encompass the entire kitchen and all cabinets - which turned out to be a good idea because I wound up strewing various candle crap all over the place! So, first I melted down a little wax and tinted it with a tiny bit of blue and then added white until it turned a baby-ish color. I used a spoon to carefully fill the wax into the pentacle part of the mold. I had so much left over, that I decided to make the back panel blue too, so I poured the rest in the back of the mold to make a thin blue layer. I then started melted what I thought would be enough wax to fill the rest of the mold. By the time that was liquid, the blue parts has cooled, so I could clip the mold together and stand it upright (propping up with some canned veggies) for pouring. I added to the wax the following oils:
Frankincense - for blessing
Rosemary - for STRONG protection
Violet - for happiness
Vetiver - to unify these energies
After adding the white tint into the wax, I poured it all into the mold - and it only filled up half way!! Ah Crap! Lol! So I melted some more. (and added oils, and added white tint) I had been thinking about embedding a crystal into the candle for empowerment but also as a talisman for Talon later on. I had decided though it was too much work - well this was the perfect (accidental) opportunity, and I just have bought a bag of pretty crystal points, so I stuck the best one down onto the cooled wax, next to the wick so it will reveal when the candle burns down that far. Yay! Well I poured in the rest of what I had melted - and it STILL didn't come to the top! It was less than an inch from, but still not done! So I wound up having to melt a little bit more and fill it up finally! So I wound up have 3 pours of the white wax, and all 3 times I had a little bit different amount of white in it, so as a result I can tell where the layers are. Chris says he can't tell though, so maybe its just one of those - eye of the maker - things.
It was my first attempt at making a magickal candle, and I had a few bumps in the road - But overall I think it came out GREAT!
