My first Mother's day was this past Sunday! It was super awesome being on the other side the holiday! Talon decided to get up extremely early, like 2am early. I tried so hard to get him to calm down and go back to sleep, but he would only sleep for like 5-10 minutes at a time. I tried to wake up Chris to get him, cus you know... it was Mother's Day so I wanted to sleep... then I was like, you know what... it's Mother's Day, no one says that Mother's Day is for taking a break from Mothering, its a time to ENJOY being a Mom, so I did! I got up with Talon and spent a couple hours alone with him playing and being silly. Chris wound up getting up later and he freaked out cus he felt bad for my having to get up so early on "my day" - but you know what, I loved having Mommy-Talon time, so it was just fine by me! Chris did an awesome job making my day feel special!
These were my first Mother's Day gifts from Talon and Chris:
-flower bouquet with pink & white daisies, carnation, astemaria (my favorite bouquet-flower), and chrysanthemum
-2 night lights (I needed these so much for those middle-of-the-night times with Talon, I have been just keeping the TV on a random input for light!)
-heart keychain with Talon, Chris, and my own birthstones inside - so cute!
-awesome retro-looking chick superhero t-shirt with Wonder Woman, Super Girl, and Bat Girl on it!
-some "relax" scented bath salts, mmmmm!
Later that afternoon we went with my family: Mimi, Pops, Nanu(sissy), Mater(CB), Maw-Maw, and Granny to the Weston Hotel in Bridge Street where they were having a Mother's Day buffet brunch. It looked great and I was pretty excited about it until I walked right up to the shrimp-cocktail table and all of a sudden I realized I was inches away from a GIANT dead fish just sitting there all splayed out. I had to stop myself from having a freak-out and instantly lost my appetite. I tried, but I really could not get the image out of my head, even right now I am getting the ooshies thinking about it! ICK! I mean, who DOES that?? Nothing more appealing than a slimy, smelly, dead carcass on your serving table - *shudders* Aaaaaanyway, the bit I did eat was pretty good.
Mimi and Pops gave me a beautiful white-gold cameo of a mother and child - I've worn it every day since then! Its so pretty!!
I gave my mom a Vera Bradley bracelet that was very "her" - she loved it!

OK so back-a-day to Saturday, we went up to Nana & Paw-Paw's (Chris's parents) and hung with them for awhile. His family is not very celebratory, so this was our Mother's Day with them. They kept Talon for a few hours while Chris and I went to see Thor. (which was awesome!) We left there house with a bird.
Yes that's right... a bird. Several years ago, Chris was working at Taco Bell and was outside on break when he spotted a cockatiel hanging around the dumpsters. Chris got a taco, whistled at the bird, and it came down to him and happily munched the taco. Chris named the bird Priscilla and brought her home to live with his family. Sometime later, they bought another cockatiel, Andy. Andy and Cilla lived quite happily together for many years. They even had several babies together! A couple weeks ago, Andy suddenly started coughing - 10 minutes later he died. We don't know what exactly happened to him, but Chris immediately began worrying about Cilla, since she was the older of the two. Chris actually had been telling me for a while that he wanted a bird, and that he missed Cilla. I always told him that we would get one later in our lives since we had so many pets now. I also have always been a teench creeped out by birds. Just a teench! But, Chris had me stick my hand in with Cilla, and she very very sweet and let me pet her and she stepped right onto my finger and hung out. I knew how much Chris wanted to have his bird again, especially since she is so old now. So home with us she went!
