Finally the Power is On!!

So finally last night at 7:30, after a day of everything gone wrong, the power was turned back on!

While I was at work yesterday, the electrician came and installed the new meter. He then called and had an inspector come and look at it, he cleared everything and left a green piece of paper there that was its inspection approval. The inspector told the electrician, and my mother who was overseeing this, that he would fax in the inspection papers and that the utilities would be out pretty soon after that. Well, when I got home at 3pm there was still no power. I asked my mom if we had any real confirmation that the inspector dude even contacted the utilities, and she was like, yes yes its his job... Well I decided to call them anyway - just to check. Surprise, surprise when they say they have received no updates, no paperwork, and no approval whatsoever for the address. The last thing they had was that the equipment was damaged (from when they were out the day before!) So the utilities dispatch guy is like, let me see what I can find out, I'll call you back. OK.

So a half hour later he calls back and tells me that they have to have some kind of confirmation that it has been inspected before they can send someone out. I tell him that the green paper is there. That means nothing to the dispatch guy, he launches into this explanation that he is Huntsville utilities and that I live in the Madison city limits and that a Department of Madison person needs to confirm the inspection and that he had to call the Madison Police Dept. that handles the Department of Madison inspection dispatch and that they are going to send someone back and I may have to have another inspection at my expense... Ugh! So we wait an hour or so again, finally a guy shows up, walks around back, see's the green piece of paper and says, "Oh, yes, it's been inspected. That's all we need." Walks back to his car and drives off. So we're like, ok, now what? We call the utilities back, and the guy says that they will be here within two hours. An hour and a half later, right at the verge of losing sunlight, they show-up - yay! So they start to attaching everything, and Chris goes out to like I dunno be all manly and supervise the reconnection, lol *cuteness*. And he heard the guy say that Jim the Electrician we used, who apparently is on a first-name basis with these guys, had told him already that he had left the breaker off. So this guy is about to touch the wiring, and Chris chimes in and says for them to let him check real fast just in case. Sure enough, the breaker was on! So that man was about to touch a live wire with who-knows-how-many volts coursing through it! Yikes! Anyway, he flipped it off and they got everything connected and we flipped back on and bam-o, power again. I dunno if maybe the first inspector flipped on the breaker for something or if Jim forgot or what but that was almost a really bad day for that guy!

So yay for power! I gotta go get all my fridge and freezer food out from my mom's house today! Oh and I get to go pick up family portraits tomorrow!!! So excited!!! On an unrelated note, I finally got Talon a comfy mattress pad for his crib! So we are starting crib-training tonight or maybe this weekend - not sure yet. I dunno who it will be worse on - Talon or ME!!

power, crib-training, utilities
