I think this is the UK edition of Checkmate. It has that European feel, I think. They use lots of white backgrounds you know, in Old Blighty. /analysis by graphic designer's wife. I pick these things up, I can't help it.
I just saw the pic and was like "OMG. John!" - which happened a rather alarming amount of times when I was looking for the perfect 'kitty playing' pic. Heh. *sheepish*
You know, I'd never thought about it before, but plain white backgrounds are quite common in graphics in the UK. As are plain black ones. It is especially common on books. it happened to help in this case that the original pic of the cat was on a white background.
