A few years ago, I got my first Kindle. I don’t know how to explain it, but for a while, I found my love for reading again. It is not that I have truly lost it, but I have allowed the tide of time carry me away on it, looking rarely at books or even thinking about books, my first love.

So, finding my love again was a very fortuitous moment for me and it helped that I didn’t need to feel guilty buying yet another book to take up space in a, then, tiny messy home - it didn’t take up any space at all. and it allowed m all the escapism in the world.

But, of late, I haven’t felt a connection to my Kindle. I have probably read less than 10 books on it in the last 2 years. I have left it not charged for months on an end. but when I did, sometimes the Kindle’s performance was worse than disappointing. It lags. It sometimes freezes. Sometimes, the battery is out even though seconds ago it stated it’s full. This doesn’t happen often by the way, in fact, it’s rather sporadic. but it was enough to jar my reading experience and I contacted the customer service.

At first, I was told to update my kindle. Fine, it was done. and, I believe they were about to send me off. Then, I mentioned about the battery issue again. At which point, they asked me for my address and basically told me I have a new Kindle coming.

The new Kindle Paperwhite.

I have heard plenty about Amazon’s excellent customer service, but to truly experience it on my own for the first time was… a truly blissful experience. there’s plenty of gratitude from my heart. Me, who used to cling to my kindle for weeks on an end. Me, who eventually gave up bringing the kindle to work because the external light was just too… off. Me, the one sitting in the dark trying to not read a book on the kindle or the ipad, because I can’t read on the kindle and ipad gets a little bit sore on the eyes.

Me, who is now getting a paperwhite because my old one is potentially getting faulty due to age. The paperwhite that can now sit in a dark room with me, allowing me to touch the other world where stars blossoms into fireworks and fairies roam the earth.

To say I am thrilled barely cut it. I am ecstatic, yet cautious. I have been eyeballing a paperwhite or a voyager for months. I don’t think it would arrive and disappoint me. On the contrary, I am afraid I might be a little lost in different worlds, inside different books.

So, thank you Amazon, for letting the little girl in me loose again. <3
